Which fixed knife for general utility shall I pick?

I've been looking for a new fixed blade that will replace my CS voyager folder.
It should be compact enough to carry in a motorbike jacket, but sturdy enough to take a beating during fishing trips.

These are my favorites so far;

1. BM Nimravus in M2
2. SOG pentagon
3. Becker Necker

Price-wise the Becker Necker is very appealing.
Can you help me out on this one? Any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers

Swamp Rat Knife Works Rat Tail. They are hand wrapped by Wally Hayes, and way cool. It would fit in you pocket, and will definitly take a beating.

Of the three you've got, only the Nimravus is good utility. The Becker's handle is a real pain for anything beyond brief use. The Pentagon is not a utility blade design.

I like the Nimravus. But I've been won over to Bark River. For your purposes, the Bark River Highland or Woodland are good choices.

The Becker has the best sheath. I think you'd want aftermarket sheaths for the Nim, Pentagon or Bark Rivers.

I just purchased a Becker Necker to try it out. First impressions are good, but the range of use will be limited by the design. The handle is hard on the hands during prolonged use, but the blade geometry and profile are good. The main complaint (and this is my first neck knife) is convenience. Neck knives are difficult to get to if worn under a shirt compared to a folder in the pocket, especially a one hand folder. However, fixed blades do have advantages over folders when it comes to simplicity and strength. Everything is a trade off. If you intend to wear the Becker on a belt, then many fixed blades would be a better choice, if for no other reason than the handle.

Go ahead and get the Becker 7:) it that's too big get the 5in version of the same knife I forget what the model number is, both are GREAT knives and much stronger than the others you have mentioned:) Also GOOD Ka-Bar is hard to beat and very inexpensive.

The Nimravus is a superior tool to the other two in just about every way, IMHO.

For what you describe I would think the Nimravus cub would work out better then the full size. I would also like to second BRKT as options. Sweet knives!

benchmade nimravus of the 3 you picked. every time i pick one up since i sold mine i kind of regret it. such a great thin cutting tool.

the rat tail is really nice from swamp rat, but id also suggest the bog dog, or the dog skinner (the new full tang micarta version). d2 heat treated for maximum shock resistence at high hardness. great stuff...

Thx guys for the quick replies.
The Rat Tail is not my cup of tea. The Becker Necker (and BK7) are way cool.
BM Nimravus it will be then, gonna order it at New Grahams, hope that works from the Netherlands. I'll save a bit more cash and might order a Becker Necker also, just means I have to be patient for another month or so :grumpy:

For a fixed blade in that size my favorite has to be the Benchmade resistor Model 220! Fantastic small fixed blade knife! Build quality on mine is supurb. The blade is a very utility freindly design as well. Give it a look. The factory sheath sucks in my opinion but I did not let that deter me from the knife and I am very glad I did not.

Oh yeah, if you want something smaller than the BK7 or 5in model, you also may want to check out the Camillus Cuda CQB's (from same Co. as Becker) they come with a 4-6 in blade with either 154cm and a tek-lok/kydex sheath, or in the same steel as the beckers with a sheath more similar (but smaller) than the one for the BK7. Also check out the Boker Applegate-Fairbain, especially if you think you may want to use it for SD. Of the three you originally mentioned though, I'd get the Nimravus

Cheers, you got email, sorted my profile, email activated.

mies, if you look in the for sale forum, there's an M2 Nimravus for $74 just waiting for ya. I had to pass on it (In favor of the 220) so it's still up for grabs afaik.

Yes I did. I had a sheath made by a knife maker Tom Krein. He was making one for someone else with the same knife so I asked him to make one for mine while he was at it. It came out very nice. Very flat IWB with the option of a Tek Lock as well for OWB carry.
