Which flashlight?

For SAR, I recommend a handheld light as a backup, something in the Fenix line that takes AA's AND a headlamp on a headstrap or on your helmet. If money is not an Issue, Go with a Lupine Systems Wilma 830 or the latest Betty. Otherwise, the PT Apex is a great value for SAR/CERT. Whatever you do, stay clear of odd battery types or rechargeable Lions that need AC.

I recently signed up for my local search and rescue team, and one of the main requirements to participate in a search is a CQ pack. The pack needs to have the essentials for a one or two day trip. I already have most of the gear from my hiking stuff, but the team requires two flashlights, a main light and a back up.

This is where I'm at a loss. I've never been into flashlights, so I was hoping you guys could help me out with some recommendations. The lights need to be durable and waterproof. Size isn't too big of an issue, but price is and I would prefer to keep the cost of both lights under $100, but the lower the better. Also, the lights need to use the standard AA or AAA batteries.

So far, I've been looking into a Princeton Tec Attitude and Impact II.

Thanks for the help.

Whatever you end up with, make sure those AAs or AAs are Lithium batteries (that's one of the benefits of CR123 batteries) as they hold a charge for years, and perform in extreme climactic conditions.
LEDs seem to be better at 90% of applications, due to longevity, durability & extended runtimes.
Incandescents still have a niche application for color accuracy & high fog/low vis/smoke situations.

The SureFire A2 Aviator seems like the perfect light to me IF they release a single CR123 version. On it's main beam incandescent (it's the only regulated incandescent by the way) I'd take 30 lumens for 2 hours instead of the current (underrated) 50 lumens for 1 hour.

Seems like a Fenix P2D Rebel + Photon-2 would be the way to go if you didn't encounter much particulate suspension for your light beam to cut through.
