I have the opportunity to get one knife 60% off at a local retailer, smokey mtn knife works. i am in need of a midsize to fullsize folder to compliment my Fallkniven U2. I looked at their website and have narrowed it down to a few. A Zero Tollerance Al Mar Shrike Spyderco Military Buck Mayo Waileo(spelling) and a Bradley Alias. This will be an EDC and will get used. The only issue with the Alias is it is partially serrated which I dont like. Other than that I dont have a preferance. Which would you get and why?

I would say the Military. I waited 3 years into my knife collecting career, owned 100+ knives, and finally got a Military. If I had bought one from the beginning, I could have saved me a lot of time and money. Plus, you're not paying much for one hell of a knife. What a deal!

Spyderco Military, proven to be one of the best. handle , blade materials, light weight.

I like youre complete list:thumbup:.

What do you really want?

A big knife like zt 200 (300),military,almar or the little Buck or small Alias.

The Buck and Alias (zt 300) are the most expensive of these list so i would choose one of them;).

But it just depends on youre edc size wishes.

If its 60% off any, I'd just get the most expensive thing available. You could always sell it, then go buy whatever you actually want.

Of your choices I'd get either the Bradley Alias one or the ZT0301/0302.

Given that the Alias is almost impossible to get , Id probably buy that with the 60% off coupon and buy one of the ZT's sometime in the future.

The Alias isn't in production anymore, if they have it, get one. Other than that, I would go with the Military. I didn't know SMKW carried the Military. The Waimea and TNT aren't listed as in stock on their site.

2 things:

1. Which Zero Tolerance?

2. Get the Zero Tolerance. :D

Seriously though, you have some nice choices. I only have experience with the Militaary, Buck and ZT (I own a ZT0300) but I think you can't go wrong with any choice you make. Just take a good look at the role you'll need it for and with your personal preferences in mind and then choose the ZT based on that. :p

If you camp and fish go for the military. It is light for a big handle and 4in blade and the geometry is perfect for slicing. I have cleaned a lot of fish and prepped dinner with that knife.
Fast becoming my fav all time folder.

So I was able to take a trip up there today. I was impressed with all of the knives for one reason or the other. The Military as most of you know just feels good in the hand and seems to lock up strong. The ZT are huge! Not at all my style, but seems like a great knife. They did have an Alias, and it did have the serrations. It is smaller than the rest and feels really well made. I think that would get strong condsideration if I could get past the blade. Another that they had that I didn't mention was the Lone Wolf Harsey T3. What a knife, but again with the serrations.....And for the Al Mar, this is very close to the Military in size and weight. The blade was seriously sharp and the blade shape was beautiful although i don't know how the point would work for EDC. After about an hour I kept going back to the Mili and the Shrike. One is all business and the other is business with class. Maybe I can get the Alias and trade for a Mili and Shrike!

I have a Buck Mayo Waimea(assuming that's the knife you meant) and it's a great knife that will definitely be tougher than the U2 but probably not much longer.

The Alias is still in production. There was a short hiatus but they're showing up at the dealers again.

Heck yeah, either what's available you would never buy otherwise or what's available that holds the best resale value...of course the key is resale value. Guess they don't sell Sebenza's or Striders?

If you have a chance at a Lone wolf Harsey t-3 at 60% off GET IT!

I have one with the plain edge and they are great knives. I just picked up a ZT 0300 and it makes a fantastic EDC blade. Since you found them a little large you might look at the Kershaw Junkyard Dog II with the SG2 blade.

The Al Mar is a great blade as well as are the newer lone wolf models.
