Which folder for my girlfriend?

I'm wondering which folder I should get for my girlfriend. I've already gotten her a spyderco carbon fiber ladybug, but I wanted to get her a beefier knife. I've been considering a Benchmade, or even another Spyderco. I'd like to get her a high quality folder which has a blade of just under 3 inches. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

My sister-in-law really like the Benchmade 350, a slim little dagger of a knife. Solidly built, the oversized bronze washer at the pivot really hold it together. Very slim and unobtrusive, a nice ladies folder.

I know it isn't a folder, but one of Sean Perkins' small integral pocket fixed blades is a possibility. I think prices start at $35 and they are awesome knives! Super sharp and my fiancee, who thinks knives are "weird" loves the two I have.

It all depends on the type of girl your lady friend is...

Will she go out camping with ya, and not fear messing with the bait while fishing?

Or does she try to pack her hair dryer on intimate camping trips!

When I brought a Police Model off a friend for $5.00 and a diver's knife (it was in BAD shape) my girlfriend was amazed at the way the "teeth" looked and how I was able to get that old rusted butterknife back into tip-top shape. She even liked to flick it out while I wasn't around!

I considered it to be to big to give to her, so I purchased an all stainless delica, and for about $30.00, the knife has never done us wrong.

With over a dozen pocket knives to pick from in my drawer, including some customs by Elishwitz (spelling wrong, I know) and Howard Viele (Spyderco's w/custom kraton and micarta scales) she always takes either the all black or satin stainless delicas.

She says the size is perfect, and the black one, though plain edge, clips nicely in her purse exterior flap!

When camping, she had her choice...she opted for a Wayne Goddard lightweight folder...A HUGE, TOUGH KNIFE!!! As a fixed, I recently purchased her a KaBar Classic in all black with "teeth".

Delica all stainless-tough, small, "pretty,"
and the chics dig the "teeth" for it makes the piece look mean!

Get her a bladeforums native. Nice color, and it can be the "Something blue" when you get married

My fiance likes hers. And her Navigator, and her BM3500sbt. She is getting a mini-socom in purple for her birthday..

Yeah, what he said. Plus, they have pink handled Zytel Delicas now, which might be a good idea, depending on how "girly" your girlfriend is. You can probably get one from Spyderco's Factory Outlet store, but I'm not sure; you may want to search in the Spyderco forum.

I'd suggest either a Spyderco Micarta Calypso Jr or a Spyderco Viele. Both very classy knives.

Spyderco Delica.

My buddie's wife "claimed" his Delica when he picked up a Military. I'll tell ya, nothing looks better than seeing a knife clipped to a beautiful woman's waistband...

IF you really like this lady, have bf member Frank Recupero turn whatever you choose into a fine work of art for her. How about a nice vine on the spine and some mother of pearl on the sides? Oh, she'll like this.

i'd agree with the calypso jr. or even a regular spydreco native. most people find the handle on the native to be great. you might consider a harpy or it's lightweight counterpart the marlin. it sounds crazy, but women seem to love em.

Here's a list of my girlfriend's production folders. Most are near the 3" mark, give or take a bit:

Spyderco Cricket, Aluminum, serrated
" , Carbon Fiber, plain
" , Pink Zytel, serrated
S&W Baby SWAT, standard, combo
" , Santa-Fe Stoneworks, plain
Spyderco 3/4-size Jess Horn, White Micarta, plain
Benchmade Leopard Cub, Black Aluminum, combo
" , Gray Aluminum, plain
Spyderco Calypso Jr., Micarta, plain
Spyderco Rookie, Steel, serrated
CRK Mirage, Gray Aluminum, plain
Benchmade 705, G-10, plain
Benchmade 350, Zytel, plain
Benchmade Mini-AFCK, custom Micarta, plain
Spyderco harpy, G-10, serrated
Spyderco Matriarch (!), Gray Zytel, serrated

Of that list, the Cubs were her first and probably still favorite. The Rookie has won a place as a real worker, and the Calypso Jr. is about the same when a plain edge is needed. Also, the Crickets are fantastic ladies' knives and surprisingly useful for their size and odd shape. The Jess Horn is in a class by itself for combining tiny size and high-class, more like a fancy folding scalpel.

One big advantage of buying for a girl is that you can (depending on her hands) take advantage of all the "minis." Many companies scale down their knives in ways that ignore the fact that the user's hand size hasn't changed. Examples are the Rookie or BM 705 - just teensy versions of the larger knife (although Beth likes the Calypso Jr., it's an example of how to scale down a knife properly to retain a full-sized grip). Well, for teensy hands, that's great! My sweetie holds her Rookie just the way I hold my Police, but if we swap both of us are left with a very poor fit. Suddenly all these "mini" knives make sense!

Wow! Thanks for your responses so far. Keep them coming. I was looking through Spyderco's catalog and was considering the stainless steel Native II or maybe even the Michael Walker Lightweight C37 (the cheap one!). I'd like to get her something that would be useful for everyday carry and maybe self-defense (just stab it in the guy's leg and twist, just kidding!). I think she'd like something that looked cool but wasn't too mean looking or aggressive (Spyderco civilian!). Thanks for your help so far.

Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket, Cricket!!!!!

Get hold of one and see how comfortable is in the hand (especially small hands). Its blade shape (hawksbill point) makes ideal for self defence (for this size category), since a girl should not try to stab, but rather "slash and run".

It is very light and handy to carry around, it is absolutely legal anywhere, it is not intimidating to non-knife people, and it also comes in pink!!

My daughter got to pick and she chose the Benchmade 350. I really like it too, but it's just too small for me.

Spyderco's catalogue doesn't include the Lightweight Calypso Jr. yet. This one gets my vote. Does she want a sharp blade in a lightweight, classy package? If so I can't imagine a better pick than this VG-10 wonder.

I got my wife a pink Delica (Thanks Jim@Chai) and then Charlie@SFO sent me a Pink Delica engraved for my Daughter. I then found a pink Cricket in a trade that I was going to keep, but my wife snagged that one. So I think if you take your girlfriend to a nice knifestore and fondles blades, watch her and then buy that one she likes. Wy wife tends to gravitate towards the colorful. I am looking for a pink MT mini SOCOM... come on Tony...

just out of curiousity, would anyone else's wife/girlfriend slap them around if they received a PINK knife?

not too bash those who like them, but there is definetly a percentage of women who would not hesitate to open a can of whoop-ass should they receive anything that is so stereotypically 'female'.

YMMV I guess

My girlfriend likes the Spyderco "Q". Unfortunately, It is (i think)out of make. It is the perfect size and she really thinks it's cool. Does anyone know where to find one?

... And she HATES Pink.
