**Which folder has the perfect thumbstud or whole??**

i like the BM AFCK hole because, unlike spydie, the hole is chamfered along the edges - hello spyderco, anyone listening? definitly a little touch but it is a positive IMHO

thumbstud? hell i dont know, all similar it seems - the REKAT is good, along w/most everything else - many like the emerson wave but i'm not just crazy about it - its ok IMHO

talking about holes LOL - almost sounds dirty LOL

Best hole vote for Spyderco Military.

Best thumb-stud design vote for Outdoor Edge Magna.

i loke the acessibility of the hole on the delica, but the Native leaves me disappointed

Well, I don't see anything to indicate that this discussion is being limited to production folders, so I'm going to say that Tom Mayo's thumb hole design is tops. IMHO, it's functionality is easily on a par with the Spyderco design, yet it's much more aesthetically pleasing at the same time (lacking the pronounced blade spine hump that is present on many Spydies).

As for thumb studs, I'm a big fan of the stud on the Microtech LCC. It's a bit bigger than most, very comfortable to manipulate, and pretty much snag free.

Altough I have several knives from various makers all with good opening discs/holes, by far, I would have to say Spyderco has the best. The holes don't get into the way of anything when cutting.

I'm partial to the AFCK's thumb hole. I have a Military, and it is an easy opener, also. REKAT's thumb studs are easy on the thumbs, and you can get a good grip on them.

Al Mar's SERE 2K's thumbstuds suck. They're too sharp and stick out way too far.

I can feel the heat of the flames on my ass already but... thumbstuds SUCK-DIDDLEY-UCK!!! I have yet to find a thubstud that I liked more than the Spydie hole. Especially on my CRKT M-16. It's worthless. Luckily the blade sticks out enough that I can grab it and open with a slight flick. Not a thumbstud fan.

I'd have to say Spyderco has the best hole system. I have to agree that thumb studs pretty much suck. It is far to easy to end up with the thumb on the wrong side of the blade. "flick" action works the best.

I don't know if it's just me, but the thumbstud on the BM 690 is too rounded and I can't get my thumb to stay on it. If I push from under the stud, my thumb comes really close to being cut by the blade. One of these days I'm going to "Dremel" it a little flatter...Ed.

I second the vote for the TNT by Tom Mayo.
Most of his folders have an oval shaped hole with an "edge" on it. Gives you a "positve" thumb hole opener as it bites into your thumb..along with his smooth action makes for a perfect open.....

IMO,
best hole-AFCK with it's chamfered Spyderhole (about 7/16" OD)

best thumbstud-don't know what they're called, but the one's Darrel Ralph uses on his new folders is the most natural for me, isn't obtrusive, and offers good non-slip traction with no sharp edges. I love it, and I'm no fan of the thumbstud.

worst thumbstud-CRKT M16 gets my vote. Ugly as crap, sharp edges, too big, placed too far back (those last two are necessary for the design, but it doesn't make me like them any more). Good grief, put a stop pin in there!

Spyderco Military (hole), CRKT Crawford/Kasper,Large,(stud).This question is a matter of the geometry between the Hole/stud, the pivot pin of the blade, the location of the hole/stud, and the position and size/reach of your thumb, therefore it will have a different answer for each user as long as the hole or stud is well made and comfortable itself.(IMHO)

NOT the Al Mar SERE 2000!!

I love this knife but those sharp studs are not what I like on my knives. They are however, IMHO, very well positioned and ergonomically correct.

Hey, nothings perfect.

All Spydercos above the Dragonfly, for the hole. For the thumb stud, I like the Emerson designed disc, followed by the Cold Steel zytel folders. RKBA!
