**Which folder has the perfect thumbstud or whole??**

For the past 5 to 6 weeks I have been carrying my MADD MAXX almost exclusively. I have become very fond of the "finger flipper" that Darrel engineers into this knife. I also like it on the Carson model 16, custom and CRKT version.
Other than this device I have always found MT to have a good design. Also fond of Spyderco holes!

Have anyone here had the chance to try out this new 'oval' hole used by BM? It was one of the reasons I jumped at the Mini AFCK (mine in the 812 in M2). I am a real fan of the Spyderhole and this new pattern does not visually appeal to me. But as I have yet to try it, what is it like? Better or worse than the Spyderhole?

I'm a big fan of Microtech thumb studs. Very comfortable. I'm referring to the big ones on the LCC, Vector, Kestrel, Ect. Other than that I like the spyderco Military.

I have several knives with thumb-studs and I loved them...until I bought a Spyderco Rescue!
No more studs for me (but I do like the disk on top of the blade).

my jaguar balisong has nice holes running the length of the handles...

sharp blades are friendlier than sharp tongues.

I'm definitely a fan of the Military hole. I will note that some Spydies seem to have "sharper" holes than others. My Military is nicely rounded, but my Gunting was pretty sharp. Doesn't make much difference to me either way. If you wanted to, you could round it off a little with a Sharpmaker rod.

I am partial to the gunting. You can use the hole or the ramp. It's smooth as one could ask for too.
Good luck,
Matt

For me, nothing comes remotely close to Spyderco for quick, utterly secure opening. I've tried without success to become friendly with thumbstuds on a variety of CRKTs, Mokis, and BMs. Maybe my thumbs are too big. The MT LCC thumbstuds are the best of the lot, in my limited experience. But if you want automatic knife-like opening without any springs, Spyderco is the way to go.

Which thumb stud or whole sucks?

I'm kinda partial to the thumb hole on the Buck Odyssey.

My fav's:
Stud: the CRKT seahawk stud.
Disk: Emerson Commander, this is IMHO the best one.
Hole: Outdoor Edge Impulse, its got three of them, and I can engage any one of them from any position with different fingers. this is the best hole.
best over all, commander disk. all this is IMHO tho.

William Henry lineup has very bitey type thumbstuds, on their fancier lines they aren't as handy but prettier to be sure.

In my limited experience-

The best:

Microtech SOCOM Elite, LCC (thumbstuds), etc.
Spyderco Military, most Spyderco knives.
Carson M16 (non flipper), M4, etc. (the real ones).
Darrel Ralph MM, EDC, Apogee (newer thumbstuds).

The worst:
small Sebenza
CRKT M16 (without the flipper)
Mission MPF
LCC D/A (bolster release)

From what I own.

Studs:

Best- Benchmade Panther 401. Big, beefy and strong.

Worst- Gigand. It used what appears to have been a brass pin. It broke after a few weeks.

Holes:

Don't like 'em. The only one I own is an AFCK.

Well, another vote for the Emerson thumb-disc. The almost greatest
thing ever developped.

Another vote goes for the HK USP-like knife from Boker, this is also
very slick and also lefty-friendly.

..my .02..
I have two Delica's, and a mixture of Crkt and some other middle market folders, have to say the spydie is the easiest and most comfortable..always thought the hump was ugly but love the Delica as a user
...cheers

My favorite is the flipper on my CRKT M16-14. Fastest opening of any of my knives.

Next is the stud on the CRKT KFF. Seems nearly perfect to me.

Maybe I just need to do a lot more practice on the Impulse I just got. I love the knife, but have the dickens of a time getting a good purchase with my thumb.

Today, though, realized it may be my right thumb. My Goddard Ltwt. arrived. My left thumb works the hole perfectly. My right thumb has slipped out a number of times. Luckily, bought for left-handed use. Maybe better try the Impulse left-handed.

I knew this was a subjective subject, but wouldn't have thought it was physiological as much as it is.
