Which folder (4" or greater blade) has solid lock up, thick grind, stout blade? Which blade can take a beating and keep on ticking?

There are no folders built like a tank
biggrin.gif

But all folders with a good name ( Benchmade, spyderco, CRKT, and numerous others ) are strong enough for real good use.
For ultimate strenght go with a fixed blade.

If you really want my vote : take a pick:
Benchmade pinnacle
Buck strider
Reeves sebenza
SOG arc-vision

The strogest folders I can imagine, but I don't know why I bought them, I never even had trouble with a spyderco endura 98'in zytel, altough everybody complains about the not-so-strong lock.

If I were going to suggest one product line that represents the ultimate in beefy ruggedness for folders, I'd proabably suggest REKAT. Don't mistake me, lots of manufacturers make lots of rugged knives but the REKAT's are about as tank-like throughout the product line as any. If you like them a little more refined, then SOG also makes some heavy, beefy folders. Take care.

I have to pick my BM705BT. Sure, it's small. But it is the only knife of it's size that I feel totally confident it. IMNSHO, any of the Axis Locks fit this description.

Take a serious look at the CRKT Crawford/Kasper (large). Not only built like a tank, but reasonably priced!

Tank = Heavy, single purpose, complicated, high maintenance, contraption.

Are you sure you want something like that?

Try a SOG TOMCAT model #SOG4. You will never break it - but the blade doesn't cut very efficiently.

One folder that suprised me with how solid it is , especially when you consider the price, the OE Magna designed by Kit Carson.

Buck Strider, its a folding pry bar!! My choice is Al-Mar SERE 2000 or MT LCC>

Ahh.....ask and you shall receive.....the Crawford KFF, MT LCC and MOD CQD. They are all built like a tank and so they stay at home in the drawer. But seriously, For a daily folder.....socom or the LCC will do.

I am definitely going to cast a vote for either the Benchmade Pinnicle or the Buck Strider. If you are really concerned with a simple STRONG lock up, then go with the Pinnicle.

Oh, wait. The upcoming Busse folder - no doubt that it'll be a tank. From what I've heard, INFI isn't well suited to machining thinner than 1/4" (too hard on the tools), so it'll definitely be beefy at 1/4" thick. And, just being Busse means it'll take almost any conceivable use/abuse that can be dreamed up.

A nuclear-tough combat folder sounds awesome!

If you get the chance, try picking up a Farid folder- Beefy to the point of being overbuilt.

Some of my recommendations:

SERE 2000
Microtech LCC
Microtech SOCOM Elite
Buck Strider

The Strider doesn't really float my boat, but it is built like a tank.

I would have to go wtih the MT SOCOM. Blade is a tad over 4". I just got mine, and it is SOLID!!!! I put my mini SOCOM through hell and it came out on top, so I am sure this knife will perform.

The Schrade LB7! These are tough, tough, tough! They don't "just fall apart", if you tear one of these up then you were definitly doing something a knife was not meant to do.
But they are HEAVY!

The Buck strider is a monster. REKAT's are tanks. Benchmade axis locks are solid. Al Mar SERE 2000 is a gem.

The good old Buck 110 is also pretty stout, thought the action may slick up with use over time. Certainly the lock is not as secure as the rolling lock or axis lock, but if you overpower it you are probably doing something you should not.

Had a BM CQC7, sucker is bomb proof. Chisel ground, strong stuff. REKAT stuff is beefy too. Can't wait to see the Busse folder either, should be tank-ish.

Get a custom Darrel Ralph or Kit Carson, though, and you will laugh at the rest.

"Had a BM CQC7, sucker is bomb proof."

It may be bomb proof, but it's not butt proof. I carry mine clipped to my back pocket, and sometimes when I go to open the blade, it scrapes on the liner. All I have to do is twist it the other way slightly to realign it ... there's only a partial back spacer and that's made of plastic.

Outside of that, I can chop branches out of my way with it, and it doesn't ever seem to need sharpening.
