Which folder is most likely to get you sent to the pokey?

Which non-automatic large folding knife do you think is most likely to present you a night in jail after the police see carrying it? I'm not talking about specific knife laws here - just where the knife probably will present an officer with a serious dilema which might result in arrest.

My nominations are:
1. Cold Steel Scimitar: "The power of a sword in your pocket."
2. REKAT Pocket Hobbit: "A folder that feels like a fixed blade"
3. Spyderco Civilian: That darned round hole makes it just like a switch blade.

This is not meant as an insult to those blades by any means. Each one is awesome in its powers of intimidation. The question is meant to look at them from a non-knife nuts point of view - what folder is "scary" to the point of causing trouble for its owner?

Another interesting question would be which knife would nearly never result in getting its owner in trouble? Maybe a spyderco dragonfly? SAK's and multitools dont really interest me, cause - if I can't carry an SAK or multitool, I might as well leave the country. Thanx!

Okay. That wasn't funny.

I think fixed blades -- especially double sided edged ones -- are more likely to get suspicions cast on you than any other; particularly if it's in a shoulder holster, or similar rigging.

Heck, Brian Dennehy as the redneck cop didn't buy it when Rambo said, "[I use it for] hunting".

I think it is more important is that it conforms to local bylaws, than size or looks. If megafolders are legal to carry concealed in your city then you are not doing anything wrong.

Just because of it's menacing blade style... "The Sifu" by REKAT would be my choice.

Civilian, not because of the hole since all models got it, but because of the way it looks... otherwise a pushdagger might not go to well with the police... not sure about how they would view knives that are fast to pull like the emerson commander with the wave if autos are illegal...

Here's my choice for a big bad folder:

"Steve Ryan model 2, an 11" double edged monster !"

That's the friendliest Steve Ryan knife I ever saw. The others aren't really monsters, either -- mutants, maybe. They should use them in SF movies. To scare the Klingons.

How much did that #2 go for?

Since we are not talking about knife laws (which are very vague in most instances) in this thread, then the following is most obvious:

No matter what folder you are carrying, if you are a gentleman with an officer, most likely you will be OK. If you act like a jerk, and are carrying a folder, you might go to jail - regardless of the folder you are carrying.

i agree.i know a few cops around here, there good to me,im good to them.they have never asked me what im carrying.
BTW-SIFU.

Hi Esav- OK, if you prefer mutants over monsters who am I to argue

I guess if someone had an extra large version of his model 3 that would be a nasty one !
BTW, I got the model 2 in a trade from a friend but they are listed in his catalog for $400.

Chariot asked an interesting question about the Emerson Commander. I believe in many states it is strictly illegal to carry any folder, or sheath which opens the blade as it is withdrawn. Therefore if you are ever questioned about your Commander, be sure to pull the knife out in a slow deliberate fashion so it does not automatically open.

The folder most likely to get you a ticket downtown....

The one that you do something illegal with. Other than that I don't have too many problems.

Cold Steel Gunsite. Aside from the 5 inch razor-sharp part-serrated Tanto blade, it has the name "Gunsite" on the blade.
That in itself might be enough to mean trouble while the officer tries to figure-out where the bullets come out at...AFTER-ALL, it DOES say "Gun" on it...

I got across the US/Canada border (out and back) with a Covert Folder (black blade) and a Spydyco Police model... one in each pocket... and an old Western fixed blade (ya know the one with the nice wicked blade) stuffed in the front console of my Ford vans dash... but i think i had a pretty good story for why i carried them...

Funny thing was when the Canadian officer came back over with the Covert with the blade sticking out and asked me "Are you trying to tell me that you dont consider this a weapon???

...and i said; "The last thing i want to do is cut anybody with all the aids going around and get their damn blood on me... ya know?"

He then closed the blade and handed me back both knives with a smile.

Both the US and Canadian border officers took my knives until they checked me out and fairly thoroughly searched my van... as they should... then they gave them back when they were satisified.

I can tell you that the Canadians were VERY concerned about not letting any firearms across, but they seemed to "understand" about the knives.

The main thing that they are concerned with is if you are any kind of a "threat"... they want to know that you are "a good guy".

I have also taken the Spydyco Co-Pilot on more than a few airplane rides without ever having a problem... the security people sometimes open up the blade a little, look at it, and figure i could never do any real harm with that little thing...

Stay safe.

I know this thread isn't about knife laws but I'm so glad I live in Texas where a SIFU is legal.

The answer is simple- just like Will Fennell said.

It's not the knife that's going to get you in trouble, it's what you choose to do with said knife that's going to seal your fate.

Don't be an a** and you'll be fine. Even if the knife gets found on your person for whatever reason- if you are gentleman or lady about it, you'll have a much better chance of getting to go home with that knife.

It is illegal to carry most anything here, but I still carry whatever I choose to. (well, within reason) My trusty mini AFCK would get me thrown in the pokey by the letter of the law, but I don't think twice about clipping it in my jeans on the weekend.

I just don't plan on doing anything with it that's going to get me "busted".
