I always hear about "fixed blades being the fastest to deploy" because you don't have to open them. But is that really true? I mean, start initial timing at the moment you say to yourself, "I need my knife" and end it when a knife is in your hand, blade ready.
Because while you don't have to open a fixed blade, you usually have to reach up on your hip for one. And I feel like many of us have to lift a shirt or jacket to access it as well. So is a fixed blade really faster than a folder? Many of us carry folders strong side on our pockets, and unless you have unbelievably short/long arms, it would be right near your hand when you're just walking/standing.
For said reasons, I carry both my strider fixed blade and a waved Native III strong side. When I want to use a blade and am in no hurry, it's always the strider. but given a situation under collapsing time, the waved Native would be out and ready in a snap.
My thoughts.
