Which gets more use in the bush?

Fixed blades for me.
3"-5" Standard
6"-8" Chopping

I have a decent selection of hatchets and axes for car camping though.

Fixed blade, always. Why? Because I see absolutely no reason to even carry a folding knife, much less use one. What's the point? Why would I carry a knife that's less ergonomical in use, less reliable, and slower, when I could have a knife that's better in absolutely all aspects except perhaps portability - and if I'm going somewhere where I would actually want a knife with me, I'm going to be carrying stuff anyway, and one small fixed blade here or there makes absolutely no difference. Folders are a sorry compromise, only to be used when there's nothing better available or absolutely no option to carry a real knife. My not so humble opinion.

All in all it boils down to a matter of preference. I don't leave my fixed blade at home because it adds more weight. I don't want to take it if I don't use it, but I'll keep them in the closet for possible future use. Here's what I took:
Fiskars 14"
Case Sod Buster Jr.
Case Moose Trapper

This is a great post!!!!:D

I'm very lucky as I have a wife that actually likes Knives and Hiking .In fact when we go out on the weekends that is usually what we do(Hiking and Knife testing).

Both of us carry folders(Spyderco, Benchmade,Emerson, etc)

But usually test fixed Blades a lot more often.

2 slide shows--just click below--and it will start right up.

Great slides!
I like to test blades too. Usually test them and sell 'em, most of the time making my money back.

I usually end up keeping a lot more than I should:D

But I love the fact we can combine both an exercise and a hobby into one activity..

   The shame, the horror! ;) Use what works! Folders are supposed to be handy. Unless you are dealing with butchering large game or in a real SHTF situation, all that's left is food prep and general cutting chores which any decent folder from an SAK up should be able to handle. No need to go squirrel hunting with an elephant gun :D

My folders stay at home anytime I'm heading out and a small fixed blade is at my side instead. If its camping thats on the agenda then then my RD-7 comes along as well.

That depends Dale...if you are hunting squirrels in elephant country, then a bigger gun is a wise choice!:D

My fixed blade knives get a lot more use than my folders, outdoors.

(By the way, I consider a hatchet or axe to be a kind of fixed blade.)

Without a doubt, a fixed blade is used the most. I carry a SAK but rarely use it. Three tools I will not hit the woods without are a large fixed blade, axe and bow saw.

I have quite a few folders in my knife box and the only time I take them out is to show students. I always carry a fixed blade (fox River) to be exact where ever I go. Never leave home without it.

PS: My wife will be carrying her Gossman Anniversary knife from now on. She really loves it.

Most the time I find myself reaching for my folder. I have one of my Kershaw with me at all times, on the trail or off (don’t always have a FB though). So naturally when I need a knife, I reach for my folder.

In terms of convenience, I don’t find a fixed on my hip any easy to deploy then drawing from my pocket. I think most the guys here claiming their fixed blades are more convenient, are comparing them to saks or traditional slip joints (not AO or one handed locking folders).
