OK, all the talk of 'hawks on the various forums has got my wallet itching again.
I figure if I'm going to get one, it might as well be a good one, thus, it might as well be a Vec.

However, I notice he uses several different heads (looks like mostly CS heads).

I have to admit, looks-wise the head of the Trail Hawk looks the nicest of the CS hawks to me, but it's such a short cutting edge. The rifleman's hawk has a longer cutting edge, but the hammer poll doesn't flow as well.

But, but, but. . .I normally carry a big, honkin' khukuri, so maybe I don't need a cutting tool, but a war hammer on a Vec handle???

OK, for those that own them, which head style did you pick, and why?

don't own any but now that you bring it up I think if I did it would have to be a war hammer, sounds fierce

if you want something more "Battle Axe-ish" and less hawk-ish - you can lop the poll off of a Cold Steel Rifleman, and the effect is like a Gransfors Bruks Forest Axe on steroids.

i've made a few of them and they are the reason i sold my beloved Gransfors Bruks Axes.

i still love the GBs though, and re-handle them for some folks.

With one of your handles, that axe would be discerning gentleman's tool of choice for zombie slaying.

looks pretty fantabulous just the way it is, brother - but thanks for the faith!

i am working on a Cold Steel Norse Hawk right now that is in all-green hues - it is beggin' to chop a zombie leg....

must be Viking Mating Season or something...:D....

Alright Vec -- how much of a beating can your handles take?

I'm in terested in your because of the handles, I kind of want the Busse Combat of 'hawks -- something that can take an ungodly beating and keep going. I know one of the big plusses in a 'hawk's favor is that it can be rehandled easily, but I'd rather have one in the "don't have to rehandle it" camp.

Hard to go wrong with Fort Turner's hawks. I'd like the Roger's Ranger on a 3-4 ft Vec handle and a lighter hawk head on a 19 inch Vec handle.

I was considering the Trapper hawk on a 24" handle, but that would blow Vec's idea of one inch per ounce (would need a 28" handle for that ratio). I have a Snow & Neally Hudson Bay axe which has a 1.75# bit on a 24" haft, and it's a bit much for one hand.

I think the 19 ounce Trail Hawk Head on a 20" handle is probably the way to go. Maybe I should just buy a CS Trail Hawk, and see how I like it (it's close at 19 inches long), and I'll have a better idea when it comes time to order a Vec.

Main reason for the Vec is the mostly indestructible (if the word of mouth is true) handles. For the record, I don't plan on throwing it.
