I agree, great knife for slicing but everything else...
I carry a Rajah 2, its heavy duty enough for anything and reassuringly large for those "oh no" moments in the woods.
Agreed on both. I own a 741, it is a beautiful knife, but a delicate (relatively) slicer. It is fantastic with food and shaving things etc and would likely make a nice skinner even as long as you weren't busting through joints. It is not a knife I'd whack at trail saplings and branches with at all.
Rajah 2, looks like a monster, even silly, I had to have it just for it's size and it turns out, I love it for hiking and using it to clip down small growth on trails and general use in the field. It's a light machete in function and will just chop a 1" or so sapling with no trouble at all.
It clips into a jeans pocket very nicely for its size, I often forget it's hanging there aside from the fact it occupies a lot of the pocket's space. The clip is large so I sometimes carry it on my belt between my belt and my pants.
My combo I'm building up is a thinner/smaller blade for finer work, the Rajah II for bigger knife work and abuse and a Silky folding tree saw. I can cover dinner, bushcraft bits and felling large trees for shelter or firewood with that combo.
Why all the folders? Because it's a bit easier to stuff them into packs/concealment as in my area you don't want to walk around with an exposed large fixed blade knife.
I don't have my own Silky yet, but the Oyakata is tops on my list. They are an amazing tool. It's stunning how well they cut, don't underestimate them for doing trail maintenance.
