Hi guys,
Tommorow, I get my first ever paycheck for $300 (I'm a hotwalker at the racetrack). Of course the majority is going towards a knife and I was thinking of a few spyderco's I would like. I was originally going to add some more money and buy a large micarta inlay sebenza but I would too scared to use it at all or even carry it. I was thinking of,

Stretch 2, I don't know anything about CF and the zdp 189 would probably take waaay too long to sharpen (I do freehand). I like the size though and it's one beatiful knife. It costs the most though.

FG manix, Might be a hair too big, I have handled it before they were discontinued but don't remember anything exept that I liked it alot.

Mini manix, The actual cutting edge is really short? It also looks kinda weird and chubby, like a quail.:o

FG G-10 endura, Probably the best slicer but I do like wide hefty knives alot, my 2 favorite blades are the swisstool and bravo-1.

Chinook 3, Has a great belly but it looks a little too upswept for using the tip

Any other good suggestions?

Thanks.

Hey 3 Wolves,

I have 2 Paramillies and a PE MIlitary, i love em all, they are my all time favorites! Great lock, great ergos, lightweight. Maybe a chinook 3 is also a good decision.

Catch the moment and buy Black Lum Chinese Folder Sprint. It is out. Prices should be more affordable shortly.

One of my favorite 'Pretty' Spydercos is the Volpe. They are discontinued but you may still be able to find one, but it's a little to nice to use.

My next to get list includes a frn endura as a working EDC, and a MCusta to be used as another 'pretty' knife.

enjoy your new purchase.

Get a Kriss AND a Mini-Manix!:)
Seriously, you'll love them both(and the Mini-Manix has no lack of cutting edge, that's for sure:thumbup:).
Get em while you can!

The full size FG Manix is awesome. I actually Carry the mini Manix more. It's got great ergos despite it's "chubby" appearance. The cutting edge isn't that short. I never considered that an issue.

This is my Grail Spydie.

I just got this version of the Caly3 and love it. ZDP is a great steel and so long as you touch it up once in a while sharpening is a non issue.

The Lum is awesome.

I had a chance to get the old fixed blade and passed it up to my eternal regret.

I have a Chinook3 and it is an awesome knife but a bit big for EDC.

Any CF scaled knife is very nice like the new sage or cricket.

Thanks for all the answers but everyones going haywire.:D

- The manix is aleady a little bigger than I wanted to buy, the police 3 is out of the question, cool as it is.

- I don't want any liner/compression/ball/frame locks, lockback for this one

Thanks.

Caly3 ZDP then no question unless you really don't want ZDP then a G10/VG10 version.
I am also a fan of the lockback.

The Chinook3 is at least manix sized ,the thing is a tank.

What steel/handle material do you want?

If you don't have a Military yet, get the S90V version. If you don't like biggish folders the Stretch II should do the trick.

Whatever you do, get a 2x6" course diamond hone, it will make profiling so much faster it's not even funny, regardless of whether you're sharpening 154CM, ZDP-189 or CPM S90V, get the diamonds.

I handled the CF zdp-189 when I was looking for a UKPK but I just don't like it for some reason. I also found the CF slippery but I understand that this is not the case for the stretch 2?

I would like G-10 for the handle and I don't realy care that much about blade steel, I sharpen to a coarser edge so S30-V seems like a good choice. The blade length should be between 3-3 3/4 inches, no bigger.

Sounds like the FG G-10 Endura might be just the ticket for you. It gets overshadowed by some of the others, but it's a really nice all around knife.
