Which high end Spyderco should I buy?

I got a full size FG Manix just a few weeks ago, it has become one of my favorites quick.

While it is heavy, some say overbuilt, I didn't notice it too much in pocket after about the first day. ♦

Also, if you do get it and it is tip down like mine was, flip the clip to tip up and your hand wont scape the thumb jimping as your hand enters your pocket. :)

High end Right here. These people have done me righteous everytime.

I like this one.........

I plan on collecting them all eventually.:)

I got my G10 Endura the other day and love it. Like Catamount said, its overshadowed by the others but a GREAT knife. Its a SOLID knife.

Go for the Stretch II, you will not regret it. Sharpening does not need to be more difficult than sharpening VG-10. If you touch your edge up weekly, or at some other interval, it will take fewer strokes than a VG-10 blade which had seen equal use during that period because it will have lost less of its sharpness. It's only if you wait until both steels get equally dull that ZDP takes longer to restore.

Have you consider looking at the Salt Series? I used to own some flat racers and run them on the Florida - New York circuit. The backstretch environment can be challenging in terms of noxious liquids (drop it in the straw in one of the stalls and it might need more than a quick wipe-off). Between the sweat (the horses and yours) the liniments, and the constant water the Salt may be a real winner.

I would take, if you can afford it, both large Sebenza (normal version, no addings) for work (sebenza means 'work') AND a Caly3 with ZDP-189 steel and CF handles. This Caly approaches the quality of Sebenza (I do not exaggerate). But try to check if there is a blade play - you shouldn't accept anything but a very small vertical blade play (by strong pushing).

A lum in ZDP-189 could be a godd equivalent to Caly3 if you prefer linerlocks.

Stretch 2, I don't know anything about CF and the zdp 189 would probably take waaay too long to sharpen (I do freehand). I like the size though and it's one beatiful knife. It costs the most though.

FG manix, Might be a hair too big, I have handled it before they were discontinued but don't remember anything exept that I liked it alot.

Mini manix, The actual cutting edge is really short? It also looks kinda weird and chubby, like a quail.:o

FG G-10 endura, Probably the best slicer but I do like wide hefty knives alot, my 2 favorite blades are the swisstool and bravo-1.

Chinook 3, Has a great belly but it looks a little too upswept for using the tip

Any other good suggestions?

Thanks.

Of those you mentioned I would say the Stretch 2.
I carry a Chinook 3 everyday(plus some others). It carries well. Some people say its heavy, but after a day or 2, your muscles get use to it.

DAMN, why'd you sell it???
That's one knife I'm NEVER selling. Not a single thing wrong with it. Good lock, good steel, slices like mad, grippy handle...
I think I might need to buy another one!:D

4 words..I Needed The Money:o

That was the only knife I sold, that made me cringe as I was packing it to be shipped.I'll get another in time.It was definitely one of my favorite knives.

Recent financial problems caused me to sell off nearly half my collection.I'm just thankfull I was able to get out of the hole I was in.Things can always be replaced.

I have a SS Delica (Aus 6 blade). Nice size, fits the pocket well, rides well,
keeps a reasonable edge...is an all round nice knife.

Used to have a Chinook 2 and a SS Harpy. Had problems (my fault problems
not the knife) with the Chinook 2, and sold it. Let my brother talk me out of
the SS Harpy, but he's very happy with it.

What I'd like to try is a Native. Reasonable size, price, tough (from what I've
heard), sheeple friendly. An all round good everyday use knife.

Heard that there might be a barong style folder coming down the pike in and
around September. Had a look at a prototype at the knife show in Eugene this
year. That would be a nice critter to get one's paws on.

Cheers

I'd go with the military but according to your list I'd definitely go with the Chinook. That thing looks like a slicing machine.

Well it was probably not the most reccomended, but Im gonna get the fg manix anyway. It just feels like the right one.
Thanks for all the answers.

:thumbup:Good choice!!!! I hear from one's I trust:jerkit: that the mini is an overall better user. I personally have a hard time denying the FS. FG Manix is in my top 5 of apx 9,887,654 other Spydies I NEED(want). Let us know how much you love it!

i would look for a Ti ATR i sure like mine a lot, certainly my favorite spyderco and i've had a few.

I'd go for a Caly 3 with CF scales and the ZDP189 blade, or the Black Lum ZDP just released, Police 3, or the upcoming Native IV or the upcoming Phoenix.
