which hunter-style knife? please help

Ka-bar has some good fixed blades for under $100. The scaled down version of the USMC fighting/utility knife would probably work pretty well for you. There's alot of options with them too. KratonG handles (rubber/plastic), or stacked leather, kydex sheath, or leather sheath. I think the small model offers a partially serrated edge which might be nice.The blades are made of 1095 carbon steel which should take a good edge, sharpen easily, and be pretty tough. Its powder coated to prevent rust and so is the pommel. You can check them out in the one stop knife shop, or they should be pretty easy to find in your local knife store or military surplus.
