I want to get a short fixed blade user made of INFI. Something between 3-5", thiner blade for good slicing (1/4"=too thick my tastes), comfortable handle for extended use, and very importantly it's gotta be "cheap" (for infi at least, $200 range).

The Active Duty and Game Warden are the most obvious candidates. How's the SS4 or inficoot? Do they have the same heat treat as Busse's infi?

Of the various options, what has the most comfy grip after extensive use? I find a lot of knives feel nice to hold, but use them on hard wood for a while and its a different story.

Thanks

The INFI SS4 is perfect for all your criteria. A little patience shoud net you one for under $200 on the Exchange. Good luck!

If you want to stay in $200 range, the SS4 is a good option. The handle is comfy, resilient, the INFI is the same as used on Busses, and the blade length and thickness is what you're looking for.

You could also keep an eye out for a Swamp Warden. The $200 cap will limit your choices.

if you want a nice EDC, i would recomend s Skelly Warden as a neck knife. talk to me if you want one. ;):)

Swamp Warden is 52100 right? I've got my heart set on some INFI.

I realize $200 (give or take) doesnt give me too much to work with, but there's definitely some options at my price range.

I dont think I could stand to use a skelly handle knife for very long. Even the handle on my Fallkniven F1 is too narrow to use on hardwood comfortably once it starts to dull.

I'm gonna keep my eyes open for a SS4, preferably a used one.

you con wrap the SKELLy and i did. its not the most confortable but its a nice necker.

the best thing for yous is a GW. if you are planing on carving DO NOT GET AN AD. the choil is to far up... GW best knife i have ever had. if you want a thiner one get a OJ but good luck on getting one of those.... :grumpy: i want one realy bad to...

Is the choil on the AD too small for your finger to choke up on it? Or is it that you prefer a normal grip when carving?

The INFI Coot would be an excellent choice even if you had to pay a little over $200 to get one.

The Inficoot and ss4 both look very similar in most aspects. Which would you prefer and why?

The ss4 looks like it has a slightly wider blade, which I like (though I could be mistaken)

I like the thinner blade on the Coot for slicing and prefer the feel of the handle on it.

There's also the Meaner Streets. The blade is similar to an SS4, but with a small choil. The handle is micarta. You're probably looking at $250.00 or so unless you find a bargain.

Which you choose depends on what you want. The muddy Res-C handle on the SS4 is easier on your hand for long term use. But the small choil on the Meaner lets you hold the grip and carve with the blade close to your hand. If you like carving with your finger in the choil, SS4 all the way.

I don't have an INFI-Coot, so I can't comment on them.
