Which is best large sypderco

Hi,

Looking to add a larger spyderco to my collection. What is better Police or Military. I am looking at a knive that is strong, sharp, adn classy. I am looking at the Police in CF, Police in SS or Military. Does the military come in anything other than g10?

The C36GPSE(Combo Edge, 50/50) Military is IMO the best large spydie. I've had mine since Aug 02, and it hasn't left my side yet.

Nice wide belly(spine to edge), comfortable grip, wide grip, easy to use lock...

The C07 Police has been in the spyderco lineup for a long time, 1984 I think. The profile of the knife is thin, it has a thin blade and almost no belly. The tip is relatively brittle b/c of it's needle like tip.

For someone who is concerned about "filling thier pockets" or boot carry, the C07 is great. Otherwise buy a Millie. $10USD difference.
 
I can't speak for Carbon Fiber Police (never handled one), but between an SS Police and a Military, I'd pick the Military. I have both (SE Police, PE Millie) and they are both great knives.

However:

1. SS Police is heavy, slim, somewhat slippery, but feels SOLID!
2. Military is light, slim, non-slippery (G-10) and also solid.

If you are not put off by a liner lock (Millie) as opposed to lockback (Police), then Millie is a better pick.

But that's just IMHO.

If you are right-handed, the Military is "better". If you are left-handed the Police model is best (due to the liner-lock of the Military). Also, the Military only comes with G-10 scales, where the Police (on the "used" market) is available with G-10, stainless, or Aluminum scales.

I carry a fully serrated Police model, and I LOVE it.:).
 
My order of preference,

1. Military CE
2. G10 Police PE

VW summed it up, about the Millie CE, in his post. IMO, this Millie has the perfect combination of PlainEdge(2.5")/SpyderEdge(1.5") on the blade. This Spydie is my absolute favorite and is my everyday EDC. My G10 Police PE just stays at home in the box and comes out only on special occasions. :cool: :D
 
Military.I find that I can open and close it left handed just fine.I am to sleepy right now to attemp to explain how to do it.
 
They are both fabulous designs, but quite different. You really should try them both and see which you prefer the feel of.

have had both the police and millie, both are good, i would rather have a police myself...........w/a SE blade, PE on the millie, and have to have the sabre grind on the police, also. ti handles are the best w/the police, followed by SS,G10 and havent seen a CF yet, G10 is much lighter, though, than the SS/ti models.

glad ya still are using that police, dann!! my wife is "trying" out my ayoob for a few days, back to my EKI CQC8 for me i guess..........oh well,

I don't have a police modell. But I'm totally satisfied with the Military. It's big lightwight and fits super into the hand.
Another large Spyderco I have (and this is my favourite Spydie) is the Massad Ayoob! It's almost as big as the Military and has Almite handles which are looking great and hollow ground! So I would prefer this one.
 
I've owned nearly all of the knives mentioned in this thread and like them all. But my current favorite, followed by the Military and Starmate, is the Ti handled Lum, pl. edge. Really classy!!:D

As I have said before, I think the Military PE is the best knife Spyderco makes. Light, sharp, good lockup and cuts great. Outstanding knife and my EDC for the last 2 years.
 
I have'nt handled the Carbon Fiber Police yet.
The SS Police is alittle too heavy for my taste.

That leaves it between the G-10 Police and the Military:

I had them both side by side (along with the Starmate) at Smokey Mt. Knife Works.
I chose the G-10 Police.

The Starmate just did'nt fit my hand as well as the Police or the Military, and it's blade is too thick IMHO.

The Military is a great knife but the G-10 Police has a slightly longer blade (by 1/8").

And the Police's handle is actually slightly shorter and less wide than the Military's, which makes it more comfortable in the pocket.
There's not enough difference in the amount of belly to make much difference in actual everyday cutting.

Alot of folks, like myself, prefer a lock-back over a liner-lock.

And I really LOVE the thin blade and fine precise tip of the flat-ground blade of the G-10 Police.

But, as someone else aready said, you'll want to actually hold them and check them out side-by-side for yourself.

You can't go wrong with either one.

Go for the millie PE. Despite all the new knives that I buy, it is always the mille that I go back to. It will not disappoint
 
If you have large hands, go with the MILITARY! The extra large hole in the blade, makes it very easy to open!
Medium or smaller size hands the Police Model would better suit!
 
Hi, i will look at the Military in PE. I think it would go well with my Delica. Was going to buy Endura, but some people told me that the Military and Police will be stronger.
 
musky hunter, IMO, you wouldn't be disappointed with either the Military or Police. But, if you do decide on the Millie after all, be sure to not let the blade go dull. The CPM440V steel can hold a razor edge for long periods but if you let it get too dull, you will need a diamond hone to help bring it back a razor sharp edge. ;) :D
