Which is better for keeping blood out micarta or wood scales?

There was a research recently in Finland that concluded that wooden cutting boards were much more hygienic than plastic ones. Wood boards had some sort of natural features that kind of sanitized themselves.

And come on, wood is natural anyway.

I'm not prolific with cleaning/skinning game. But I've done turkey, deer, elk, and a full cow, skinned and butchered.

The pro butcher I did the cow with, had a set of wood handed knives and not sealed wood, or laminated wood. He had Hickory handled, old fashioned, been used for more than one generation wood. He also had more modern knives too, with plastic handles.
I have several just like them. Handed down from my grandfather and newr 100 years old. He used then to butcher all his own animals, including his own hogs, cows, and poultry...

Don't over think it.

I've used wood, micarta, laminated wood, g10, paper micarta and canvas micarta, and resiprine C. All worked fine, all cleaned up fine...

G10 absorbed less and was easiest to clean. But micarta, even canvas micarta cleaned fine with dish soap and hot water.

Ah, crap, just noticed I got sucked in by a necro thread!!!!!!

Ive found hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach to be more thorough and less reactive to some types of metal. Cleans organic fluids out of micarta like it was never there.

Field dressed more than one deer with knives with Micarta scales, and washed them off with warm water and dish soap. Never had stains left behind.
