Which is better? the 110 or the 112?

Lightweight, yes......but that's not a big deal with a knife unless you're on a two week backpacking trip where you cut your toothbrush in half to make it lighter.

;)

It's a big deal to me....cant keep my pants up with a 110 in the pocket...

The 110 and the 112 are both great knives in their own right.
I like the 110 most (of all folders I own) for its lengthy blade, the hollow ground, and the comfortable heavy handle. For use in the kitchen, cutting al kinds of fruit and vegetables and meat, the 110 won't get as dirty around the pivot as the 112 does. Best cutter of all.

Math.

The OP has made a great choice with the 110 as already noted but thought I would toss this on...

One thing I find annoying about both the 110 and 112 (and their variants) is that the "bowie" style clip point scares people. Minor rant... There's a table in the hallway at work where little rah-rah cake-fests are held. Think "The Office". For the past month or so, a huge 18 serrated cake knife has been just sitting there. It's huge, long and sharp. And nobody bats an eye.

But if I were to lay my 110 next to it, somebody would call security, no questions asked.

It's not just the length, I'm convinced of that. Even if I were to pull out a 112, people still get weirded out by it. My Opinel #8 on the other hand, is like a stealth knife. At most it gets, "Oh, that's nice looking." Dimwits.

In any event, I find the 112 to be awkward in this regard. It's not long enough to be useful but it's clip point is just as scary. With no real weight savings and no more ability to pull it out with Nancy Q Public going into alarm mode, I think the 110 is the winner. (The Buck 500 on the other hand is a tick more acceptable.)

Sorry for the rant.

pinnah at least your coworkers won't try to mug you if you carry the 110 or 112.
Or maybe you live and work in the wrong place?

(Just a joke, as I don't know anything about your work or the place you live.) :D

Better carry one of these.....they eliminated the terrifying "Bowie" style clip point because it scared people.

That would be such a nice knife it it didn't have that cut on the back of the blade. The only use I've read about is to bend wire or lift up wire handled pots on a camp stove. You can't bend wire on the choil? You can't cut a stick to lift a pot?

That notch on top of the blade is something often seen in marketing......a creative solution to a non-existent problem that is touted as a grand advance in capabilities.

:D

A 112 with a DP blade in paper stone with finger grooves is close to a perfect pocket knife..I cannot think of any 'job' a 110 would be better at..If you need more knife you really need a much bigger one..

Did you get yours already?? DM

Todd,
I've recently acquired 2 Model 112s to add to my growing collection: a Category I, Version I, (lower) and a Category III, Version IV.

As soon as the Cat I/Ver I comes home with a new blade, I'll make it my EDC for work. It came to me with the hole through the bolster so, I'll make use of it by inserting a lanyard. As a Pipefitter, often working in a pipe rack with men on the ground below, I can use it without the specter of an open clip blade slipping from my grasp & injuring someone. (!)

I like my 110 a lot, too but haven't had it long enough to give a testimonial -I just like the balance & "feel."
I have to agree with others who've said, "get 'em both!"

Ding, ding, ding I think you got it. That being said I think its useful or at the least
Not bothering anything. I don't have a hoodium yet. I've thought about getting one to carry on my tractor and in my truck. It looks like it'll make a good machete.

Frankly, to carry on a tractor or in a truck.....I'd get a real machete instead of the Hoodlum.

It's smaller than it looks and more expensive than its usefulness.

;)

Yep that's why its just been a thought. But it stays in my mind for the reason you mentioned. Its smaller than a machete. Anybody that has worked w/ much barbwire can tell ya that the notch on back isn't going to last thru much barbwire breaking. I'm just looking at the hoodium in the event I have to get off tractor or truck and go thru a briar mess or tangle of vines. But the price does keep it out of reach of that though.

I'd go with the 110 myself if I were going to carry a folder as my primary knife due to the longer bade however the 112 is a fine EDC and Backup to a larger blade of some sort.

Buck will replace that spring holder. Thats what happens many times when one attempts a lanyard hole in a back lock. DM

If I could get the forward bolster from the 112 on the 110, I'd say 110 all day long. For me the 112 gives up little and carries better. Both rock though.
