FWIW, I think it depends on the Kami. I just sold a beautiful wood 21" by Sher, with a very thick spine and consequently a very nice deep fuller, that weighed 29 oz. but because of the thick spine and balance felt heavier. It was super pretty, but I had to go by how it felt to me. I kept a somewhat plainer looking 21" Gelbu by Bura, with a thinner spine and better balance, that weighs 28 oz., but I swear feels a half-pound lighter. It is just a better handling blade for me.
I have the 25" that I got from Danny and straightened, also by Sher, and it balances wonderfully, and at 4" longer than the older Sher 21", weighs exactly the same at 29 oz. And I have a 19" BirGhorka Gelbu with a carved rosewood handle, that is a great combination chopper / fighter. At a full 33 oz., you would think it would be a bear, but is very well balanced and feels lighter than the 21" I just sold, even though it is 4 oz. heavier. A longer handle helps.
I still have an 18" Gelbu, but will probably be parting with that soon as I have the 19". I sold all my 12" and 15" sirupatis. It's probably just me, but where I find the 15" AK and BAS and Hanshee models useful, the same sized sirus don't really do that much for me personally. I have an 18" Villager chainpuri, and can't imagine going lighter than that. Although I think Tom (Dragn_flame) has a bunch of the 15" chainpuri's and loves them, so maybe I'll try one later.
Thanks,
Norm
