which is better? which is the best best?

No one has a Tachyon yet (except protos). When it does come out, it will no doubt have that Microtech quality. In all likelihood you can't go wrong with either of those two brands.
The best in what way, artisticly or for manipulation? Older Benchmade customs, the 49 SPL (is anyone really going to "reef" on this one), the Benchmade 42, maybe the Tachyon, or some say the BM 45 in stainless was the best; again though, best for what?

If there was one "best" knife, we'd all have that knife and only that knife...
That said, the BM 42/3/7 are damn popular and damn high quality. For now, I'd say one of those...or wait until people get the Tachyon and see what they have to say about that

I believe a custom balisong made just for you is the best, production is to appeal to the masses.

Custom...I like that word. Most of the time with a custom you get what you want at the time.

Given what I now know of the models listed: the Tachyon.
As for the Best of the best? I'm still looking, but the Titanium BM Custom Special that Dawkins has it currently on top of the list. Too bad it has the wrong blade.
Edited to answer 2nd question. Didn't want to give the impression that the Tachyon is the answer for both. It's not.
