Which is more practical for EDC Cold Steel Recon 1 tanto plain edge, Kershaw Skyline, or Kershaw Leek.

Skyline as its the easiet to operate 1 handed and also has a stronger tip than the leek and better steel than the recon.

Skyline or Leek. Almost anything Cold Steel has the svelte compactness of a brick. The Skyline and Leek are much lighter duty knives, though, but will do anything needed from a pocket knife and not have a crazy overbuilt lock.

Of all of the Cold Steel models, the Recon 1, American Lawman, and Counter Point are the more EDC friendly and less ridiculous models. The Recon 1 Tanto has a pretty bad blade shape for EDC, though.

I have all three and would take the Cold Steel for actual use, the Skyline for playing with (though it does feel a tad like a folding butter knife).

Leeks are very practical. I have a few, they are extremely slim, pack a 3" blade, enough to handle most tasks while staying off the law's radar. They've even got the secondary lock that still can be disengaged then opened all with one hand. S30v or Sandvik if your picky about your steel. My random leek travels with my on a kydex neck sheath I grabbed off amazon.
IMO, pretty damn practical.

Skyline! I got 2 of the BF models *waggle eyebrows* and of course, several of the standard ones as well. Definitely a practical choice.

The definition of practical would differ from person to person depending on the activities of each. For me, I'll take the CS Recon 1.

Acesn8s probably has the best first suggestion. All of us have different day-to-day needs. All the knives listed could be the best choice, but that's going to depend on what you do and need daily. The Cold Steel is going to be very "rough and ready", and a good choice for more rugged needs. The Kershaws are going to carry a bit more easily and look more refined in public view.

Mrdabble's reverse tanto Leek is really sweet looking. Refined, but capable of a wide rage of work, I'd suspect.

Figure out what your daily cutting needs are and pick the one can handle the widest range of your needs and still fit into the setting in the places you travel.

I would go with the Skyline. The only reason it wins over the Leek is because its a manual flipper, where the Leek is assisted open and sometimes LEO's frown upon that. And you get a beefier tip.

I like them both, and have a few examples of both (from Kershaw).

For overall balance and practicality I think the Skyline wins. The Cold Steel would come in second and then the Leek. All three are great but strive in different areas and I find the Skyline to be the middle ground.

Skyline. Its not as tactical looking but it also doesn't have as weak of a tip as the Leek and over all it can just stand up to a little harder use.

Of the three, I only own a Recon 1 tanto, and as solid as it is, it's just way too big for my EDC purposes, which means jeans/pants pocket carry at the office. Two of my co-workers EDC Leeks and have done so virtually non-stop for years. While that's not my knife preference, I have a number of Kershaws around that size that get carried frequently.

I have to get a bit light-hearted about this and say "none of the above". What's a man to do with only a single blade, no matter what the length, steel, shape or how sharp. Go on out and get yourself an inexpensive SAK so that you can pull splinters, tighten screws, drill holes, open cans, uncork wine bottles and a million other things that none of above items can do. But, you will no longer be able to intimidate anyone, which may be the crux of the question that you ask.

I guess it depends on what you use your EDC for. I always want the right tool for the right job. If you work in an office and are going to be opening letters and slashing cardboard, maybe cutting up an apple at lunch I would tend to lean towards the Kershaw Leek. It has great blade steel and is extreamly well made and can survive some "heavy" use.

If your EDC takes you places like a work site where you would be potentially abusing it on the daily I would go for the Recon 1 or Skyline. CS does their AUS8-a right and with a little bit of love at the end of the day will make it look like new. The spear point on the Skyline will also hold up to a heavier use.

If you just want a knife to do everything at anytime and just can't decide which one to pick. Consider all aspects of each blade (dimensions/weight/materials/price/warranty) and pick the one YOU find the most esthetically appealing.
