I went with the Chinook.
As in your own words Blizzard, "general purpose utility knife", for that I think there is no comparison between the Chinook and the Gunting. I think the the Chinook's blade is just more practical for general use, which certainly includes solid defensive attributes.
I find the Gunting's blade too short and straight---this is a specialized knife and I respect it for that; a strict defensive tool. I look forward to owning the Gunting also.
As for strength of their locks, probably a toss-up, with the "edge" probably going to the Chinook's lockback IMO. The lockback is the simplest thing there is. Very wise to use it on the rugged Chinook.
I'm still in awe of my Chinook's design and construction. It is a thing to BEHOLD; the closest thing to perfection I ever spent a hundred bucks on. I AM the type of guy that expect a lot for a hundred bucks.
Big and heavy??
Of course!!
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
For simple, easy and casual EDC, that is why I have my Native.
Thank you Sal and thank you Mr. Keating for an awesome cutting tool.
