Which is the best 301? Today's Buck, Shrade, or Camillus?

VictorLouis, the first Buck 301 was made by Schrade, the second 301 was made by Schrade and the third 301 was also made by Schrade.
I have only one 1965 Buck 301, they are very hard to find even used. Ken

None of the above.
I'm going to put in a plug for the old bucks made in the the 90's, 3 spring design and a flat grind.
I don't know if best is the right term but favorite would describe it for me. When Buck changed to the new grind I tried one and it just wasn't right. At least not for what I use them for.

My vote for best 301 is the 2014 BCCI limited edition 301 with ivory micarta scales and all 3 blades in BG-42 steel :)
Yep, that is the one I like best :)

Oh wait...... Stumps took one of these BCCI 301's and rescaled it with Sambar Stag scales..... that particular one is my favorite :)

Yes, and there are 42 plain scaled ones left and only a couple with BCCI logos. 300

There is a elk scaled flat ground version from the late 80's, I will call that my favorite, except their auction cost is so high I can't buy another one. 425m Bos blades. Mine has that sort of green effect in the burls....I carry it only at special events because I am afraid to lose it......300

kGOLD, sorry, I mean 1st year they were made in-house by BUCK, 1986. ;)

300, that stag is gorgeous.

I've never handled the Shrade 301 or the Camillus 301. To those of you that have handled all 3, which is the best one?

I prefer the current configuration. Both the three spring and the positioning of the blades. (Love the unbent blades and the sheepsfoot ready to be opened by my right hand.)
I think I also prefer the current grind, but I could be easily argued into preferring a flat grind.

I have all three in my collection, not all versions, but, I do the best I can. I really do like the look and feel of the Schrade made Bucks. You better have good fingernails to open them, however. I agree that the 01 is a might big for carrying every day, so, my EDC is a Schrade contract 303 that was given to me by a feller I met on this forum. I think about him every time I use it. If I feel I'll need a larger knife, the 301 is a good choice, but, I always have a 112 on my belt. When my wife gets dressed she matches the occassion to her shoes and scarves. I match my knives to the occasion and my "mood". I just love it when someone says, "Any body got a knife?"

I just got a new 301 yesterday and it's now part of my EDC. I like this new version. The only Camillus-made Buck I have is my old 303 that I got in 1978. Although that was and is excellent, I like my new 301 better...including the hollow ground blades.

I have two current production 301s a standard and a Chuck Buck. Two issues, the back springs on the standard seem a little week, and I don't really like the blade profile on the main blade. Needs a longer clip.
