Viele, Police, or Military. Which is the best carry and toughest? What is your opinion on G-10 and Stainless handles?

As to the knife, I don't have experience with the ones mentioned. I would choose the Police for the lock-back. More secure than the liner-lock. For handles, G-10 is much more secure than stainless, lighter too. Stainless tends to be slippery. Have you considered the Native?

I own a police with steel handles.
Altough in some conditions it may be slippery
(wet/greased hands) the problem shouldn't arise when cutting.Stabbing or heavy pointwork ,instead, are a little bit more dangerous.
The toughness of the steel handles makes the police one of the thinnest knives i own : this makes it very comfortable for everyday/all-day carry ,even if it's heavy it simply tend to disappear once in the pocket.
The lenght of the handle gives you a comfortable and secure grip both when used edge down (cutting on a board) or up (cutting rope loops). For my hands it's a little too long to put the thumb on thebutt of it when used point down (stabbing it into a log).
All in all i think the police would be the best choice : try one in your grip and in your pocket and see if the benefits of the steel handles(thin , strong)makes for more weight and a need for a little more caution when used in damp conditions.

The police is offered in g-10. that is what I would get if I were going to get a police. The Military would be my choice of the three you mentioned. It is designed to be a real worker.

Of course none of them compare to the Wegner

I think G-10 is the way to go.
Of the knives you list, I would get the Military. You should also check out the Wegner and Chinook before making a decision.

Miltary (440V plainedge) is, imho, the best Spyderco made. Super sharp, excellent edge retention and lightwieght.
Also the Full size Calypso (if you can still find one) is a great knife. Vorpal sharp.
Take care,
Chad

Can't comment about the knives, since I've never used them, but the difference between stainless and G-10 handles is staggering, especially if the G-10 has been textured (roughed up) for gripping. MUCH lighter, can't be stained (stainless actually CAN be), tougher'en hell and thermally and chemically inert (doesn't respond to extreme temperature or chemical contaminants); if you've ever tried to pick up your stainless—handled knife from your car dashboard in the summertime or left it near the air conditioner at home, you'll REALLY appreciate G-10. (BTW, no offense to Spyderco, but you may want to check out the Benchmade Stryker - a truly unique handle to go with a great blade!).
