which K.L.O. (kukri like object

I have both the CS Kukri machete and the Kabar Kukri machete. I like both and each is better suited for a different task. The way I see it, the CS is an excellent machete that makes for a good chopper, while the Kabar is an excellent chopper that makes for a good machete. I hope that makes sense. Regarding the handles, I've never had problems with the CS handle (mine is the old version with Kraton handle), but the Kabar's is more comfortable.

I haven't tried the Condor yet, but I've been thinking of getting one, since I suspect it may give you the best of both worlds. Weight, steel, and thickness of the Condor just about splits the difference between the CS and the Kabar. I definitely want to try the Condor, but for now, when choosing between taking the CS or the Kabar, it depends on where I'm going; if my primary task will be chopping or brush clearing.

I have the CS Magnum Kukri, i would not recommend it.
Its Handle ergos really suck. Its really just a long, light, very thin Kukri shaped machete!
I do have 4 other CS machetes which are actually decent.

That Condor Kukri looks good! Might have to add that to my "Condors to get" list.
Waiting on two Condor Bushlores to arrive before i order anymore knives though, lol.

Send me your address......my good man.

I know.. Nothing beats an HI... but I wanted to try out a cheaper design..

was looking at the kabar kukri machete or one of the Cold steel models...

any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

I have one of the Ka-Bars and am very happy with it (though I admit I'm looking at HI). For the money, it (like every Ka-Bar purchase I've made) is a great value.

As far as KLO's go, the following are all pretty good

Condor Kukri
Cold Steel Kukri (machete and Gurka)
Kabar
ONtario (I want one of these...I have had lots of the Spec Ops stuff, 5160 and good heat treats)

But, none chop like a KUKRI from HI, even some of the other Nepalese kukris are good stuff from the reports I have (from guys with TONS of HI Kuks)

Payette,
If your WWII isnt out chopping that machete, you have to sharpen it or something. I have owned both, and while the condor is a great tool ( I know what yo are thinking, but seriously, I regret selling it, really) The WWII is one heck of an easy going KUK.

The top kuk in this pic is my massive 21 inch CAK..it has taken abuse like you read about..I trust it to do anything but cook me dinner.
below is my Bonecutter..awesome chopper
My favorite is 3rd, a perfect trade in power and size , CAK by Sgt Kadka
and 4th, a great packable Murali bonecutter, with correct grinds.

I've been banging around in with a CS for about 6 months now. I'm not machete ninja but the thing works well for me and I find it easy to use. Just my .02

To me the belly doesn't feel as natural. It's very destructive and makes wood fly but the Condor carves perfect little V's that make it my most efficient chopper-where I tell the blade to bite is where the blow lands. The WWII's belly is much much different, the entire blade profile, really... I do like it and it does perform, just not as efficiently as the Condor. Maybe you're right-the convexed edge is very, well... convexed... I may have to do some material removing this weekend.

I have a KA-BAR Kukri Machete - chops & batons pretty well, excellent for the price.

I also have a HI 15" Ganga Ram - chops well, heavier than the KA-BAR and cost over twice as much. Not as good for batoning IMO.

Now I'm thinking that I need to buy a Condor Kukri (I'm blaming YOU Payette!).

Since I am looking at paying freight for an overseas shipment I might have to buy me 3 or 4 machetes to play with (maybe an ESEE & 3 Condors) then I'll be well equipped when the zombie apocalypse comes.

go for it-I get the occasional Smokey Mountain Knife Works email, "Take 10% off your order this weekend!" or "Free shipping through Friday!" Makes spending 10 or 20 bucks on machetes reasonable when shipping typically costs as much as the blade... that's when I scoop my cheap ones. People should know me enough by now to know I don't harp on anything because of a brand name or popularity status-if I go out of my way to harp on a product it's because it freaking works. This is one of those deals where you drop pennies on the dollar for what you get, it's just entirely practical. Small, light, cheap, quality, comfortable and high performance.

I have the CS and the KaBar and I vote for the KaBar all the way. The thicker blade is more flexible than you would expect which leads to prying durability.
Riley- I'd be glad to send my KaBar kukri your way for a month or so you can get a feel for it if you want. Let me know.

Sorry RR no experience to input but
I have just cleaned up a kukri that was given to me by a friend, who rescued it from anothers backyard.
Posted pictures and questions about that blade on B Levines forum

With all the interest in these blades Im going to have to give it a try
Thanks

I don't have any experience with the other kuks, but I do have a CS one. I can say, it's a beast. It's just eats everything I hit with it. The heavier stuff doesn't stand a chance and the thinner vegetation takes a little finessing to cut it once you get used to it. I do know that it cuts fast.
If you do get one just be prepared to reprofile the edge. The only bad thing I can say about it is I really dont like the sheath. I wish I could find another one for it and I would be set.

Here you go RiverRat. Neither are anything spectacular, but a fun little project for sure.
