Hi I am thinking of buying a Ka-Bar but I don't really know which one.
I want a fixed blade survival knife.
what's your opinion?

Kabar BK-2, although for some smaller tasks some people find it too thick at .25
Maybe if you can be little more specific about your needs, we could help you better.
Are you trying to find the One Doit All blade ?

Would help to know a bit more about your intended use. Chopping? Batoning? Prying? Carving? Slicing? Etc etc. I have a BK-2 and absolutely love it. I feel like it's a "jack of all trades" type capable of everything but not the master of any one thing. It's known for being built like a tank and is certainly a knife you could rely on when the rubber hits the road.

I want to use one knife for every task.

Then the BK-2 is a really great option. That said, all of the Becker knives are great. The 4, 9 or 10 may also be good options. I'd suggest taking this question over to the Becker Knife & Tool sub-forum to see what the folks there come up with.

For a first knife.... . Why not the FU KA-BAR? . Great all around blade with a ton of history brehind it.

A kabar Usn mk1.makes for a great companion to the bk7.
The bk9 is a great huge knife which
Might work well for some
But the rest of us mere mortals
Might be more of an over kill.

In my opinion one knife only had to consider all around duties and ease of use

Weight=medium
Baton=medium
slicing=Above Average
Cost=medium

That was easy Large Bowie

BK2 - 1lb of pure awesome survival power, the 'Train wrecker' will take anything you or this earth can put in its path.
BK16 - versatile medium blade to 'do it all'
1217 as Moosez mentioned - because the design has not changed in over 100 years and they are still being produce (that tells you they are doing something right)
BK9 - if you want a large knife that doesn't feel like a large knife and can do anything you ask of it.

However I do believe the answer to your question would be; Any fixed blade they produce :D

1217 indeed. BK-7 would be a good choice too.

I would have to say the bk2, yes it may have a thick blade which some people may not like, but I think its a good reassurance that this knife will make it to hell and back without a scratch. Also with this knife you have many customization options such as scales, such as wood or micarta. And then there is the sheaths, if I would change one thing it would be the sheath, but you can pick up a sheath for this easy, but just a forewarning about sheaths, if you are looking for a nice leather sheath it will cost you a pretty prenny, but some of the kydex ones can be cheaper but just as nice. But yeah that is my thoughts on a good ka bar knife. I hope i help. : )

Agreed. Mine is about 27 years old and still kicking like it was just made.

BK-7 would be a good choice too.

I think given a choice [for me] between the BK 7 and 9.....I'd probably pick the 9. But that's a big blade....and I do mean big....but it should accomplish all "outdoorsy" tasks with the exception to finer detail work [like fish and small game skinning, etc].

How about a BK-10? Not quite as thick as the BK-2 but still tough and has the same comfy grip. It also has a slightly longer blade. I love mine.
