which khuk?

I have both: a Bura Pen knife and a 12 in AK by Shanker.

The AK has a slimmer blade, but much the same weight. The major difference is that while the Pen knife is quicker handling (inmicroseconds), the AK's weight is distributed out further in the blade, lending it to more weight upon impact. Both are beautifully made. The more narrow blade of the AK is easier for me working on processing a deer, but really...both are kind of big for the task.

As I said in an earlier post, if you don't have another khuk to compare with them, you will be astounded by their finish and their versitility. It's only when you get more khuks from HI that you start getting weird about better/bigger/faster/longer/stronger/bear/cougar/tiger/ninja/horn/wood/convex/consomethingelse/hollowground/polish/satin finish stuff.

READ the safety thread before you order, before you open the box, and before you take it out to play.

I think Kismet just explained the Pen Vs AK. The question you should be asking yourself is how much wood do you want your first HI khuk to cut? If you expect to supply firewood you should consider a larger blade. If you're going to camp along a trail and dead fall is common, and you only require a light cutting here and there the Pen and little AK are fine.

I don't own either Pen or Ak, having a 12" siruapti and a Balance instead. But I've owned a couple BAS's, and I guarentee the first thing you will notice swinging a small khuk is, "Gee, if this thing were just a little bigger it would really cut."

Even the BAS and 15" AK are too little for my needs. Not only firewood, but I occasionally bring home wood samples for work later at home.

Great "in-the-field" info here, bro....

You might even try to get in on a 14" BDC - it fits in that magic void between 12" and 15". Very easy to belt carry and I beat my first one to death with no problems.

Feel free to whine right off, if you can take the response that everyone else gets when they whine.

Danny,
Give the kid a break.
He'll become able to deal with our sarcasm, and become sarcastic enough with time. I'll send you a well worn copy of Zen and the Art of Sarcasm.

What Sarcasm?

There are however, lots of ironies in the fire,
