Which knife are you embarrassed to carry?

When I'm going places were my knife may be confiscated, or stolen, such as a casino, concert, or fair, I leave my ZT's & Spyderco's at home, and carry a Walmart Gerber.

Man do I feel embarrassed carrying this thing. I don't want to be mistaken for one of those guys who thinks a $15 Gerber is a TANK and can go against a samuri sword.

What knife makes you embarrassed to carry, but are sometimes "forced"?

P.S. I might just upgrade that Gerber to a Buck 110 since I can find one under $30.

I haven't been embarrassed to carry any knife of any brand. I eventually got to the stage to where I consider every knife a tool or the means of self defense. As long as it does the job for what I want it to do when I am carrying it, then I am happy with it.

I guess I am rather pretentious. It's the materialistic ways of modern society working its way into every part of my life. :D

SOG flash 1. I like it and it serves its purpose when I can't carry my Spydies or BMs. I just feel that most people look down upon it.

How would your knife get confiscated in those places? You could always leave the establishment if they had a problem with it. But I'd be wondering what you did to attract all that attention.

I try not to carry any knives I don't like anymore. I'd be happy to carry any knife I currently own.

I can understand that. I was so bad to where I would never use a knife because I was afraid it would get scratched. So in a way every knife I bought to use in the terms of self defense or utility work, it would sit at home. It could have been no different then me buying a photo of the knife and having that photo framed and sitting on the wall...

Eventually I got to the point, where I am at now, (still kinda of a steel snob) to where I love having a knife that has a worn, used, look to it.

Places like that sometimes have a no weapons policy, and leaving the establishment sometimes means a 45 min. walk or tram ride back to my vehicle causing me to loose what ever time I have spent waiting in line, paid even, etc...

The issue is the law is so inconsistent, the carry laws varies per event or establishment. Casino's are private property, fairs and concerts depend on the rules given my the promoter or venue. Blah... I sometimes just play it safe and carry a Benchmade Rescue-5 with a kydex cover for the cutting part, making it look like a handle for a bottle opener.

First of all nobody would even notice the knife that is inside my pocket, second of all if the knife is inside my pocket I highly doubt I would lose it, third, I wouldn't bring a knife to a place if I knew it could get confiscated, and lastly I don't own a knife I would be embarrassed by if I were to have to take it out and use it.

On top of all of that, your average joe won't know a good knife from a crappy one. Now if you went to a knife show and you clipped the gerber to your pocket with 1/3 of it exposed then yea.... that's a different story.

Only knives I dont carry are these MT 2001 UT6s.

Great knives can be made anywhere that good materials and skilled builders exist.

Personally I am embarrassed to carry anything with a blade over 4 inches in public places. Nothing like walking into a nice restaurant with a 10 inch chopper on your belt...it really clashes with the decor.

I sometimes feel alittle awkward when I need to use my edc in public, and it's my big CRKT M16-14ZSF. between the blade shape, dual flippers, and its oversized look in my tiny hands, i'm hesitant to use it in public even though it gets the most abuse as one of my indestructible edc's. That and any black coated blades, which just makes them "look scary and made to kill people." But hey, the hissatsu IS made to kill people, so I don't edc that very much :) just a big ass letter opener at home.

Believe it or not. Sometime it is embarrassing carrying a small or medium fixed blade on day hikes in MA and NH. There are so many moon bats. However it doesn't stop me.

I'm with you dude... when i go to concerts and stuff like that I usually just don't carry because of the hassle. Around here (memphis) lots of places will frisk you and ask you to lose items to a "lost and found" or just outright take it or throw it away. Then other times nobody checks

and I'm not goin to NOT enjoy an event because somebody wouldn't let me take a POCKET KNIFE into it... don't be ridiculous :)

If I'm going someplace where there's a chance I might not be able to carry a knife, I carry a Case Jr. Sodbuster. That way it won't be the end of the world if I have to ditch it. I certainly don't feel embarassed about carrying one of those though, they're rock solid knives. I have one on me most of the time anyway.

I don't care what others may think about what I carry, or wear, or anything else that superficial. If I'm carrying a knife, it's because it works for me. Likely it's a half-decent knife, anyway...but I'm not carrying it to live up to anyone else's standards. My values are beyond being influenced by the opinions of shallow people resembling walking commercials.

But the clothes you wear, the car you drive, tec, etc, etc, all 100% US made, right?

"I only carry US made... blah, blah, blah. Hypocrite
Maybe he carries U.S. made when he has options. Trying to start an argument and name calling would be more appropriate in whine & cheese.
