The US Government Tax Rebate Checks are not yet agreed on but here on BF there's already discussion on which knives to spend it on.

Over at the Busse Forum a financial wizard says it's got to be 100% infi.

Here in General someone's eyeing a New Benchmade Rift....

So, the latest Senate discussion on the tax rebate checks puts them at $500 per individual, $1,000 a couple and an extra $300 for every child under 17. If you're married with 3 kids that's close to $2,000...

What percentage of your rebate check would you want to spend on knives?

More importantly which knife or knives are you tempted to spend your check on?

I tend to shake my head and look down on people who use any extra money they come across as soon as they get it for something they don't need, but in this case I'll make an exception. Since this rebate is meant to boost the economy I actually encourage spending it and will do so myself. Maybe I'll get a Sebenza since I don't have one.

I plan on buying a Bark River Bravo-1 in green canvas.
Maybe a Spyderco Tenacious or a Benchmade 710.

Just spend at least some of it on an AMERICAN product. It won't help our economy squat if the lionshare of the money goes oversees. Its tough because I think most Americans will try to pay down their debt some, and in the end that defeats the purpose. I would rather they change the tax code to allow me to deduct a portion or all of the interest on my loans and debts.

Why do you guys over pay the government? Wouldn't you rather have that money collecting interest in your bank account?

It's not a rebate. It's a loan. US already spends more than it takes in. We'll be paying for that rebate (and more) eventually.

Buying American is definitely the best way to go and maximizes the impact, but even those who insist on buying Chinese are boosting jobs and growth here.

Rich this is not a refund of over-paid taxes it's a special payout by the US government to stimulate the economy to prevent recession.

shecky, whether or not we end up having to pay for it all some other way the question is how are BF members going to be tempted to spend the money. Which knives will they find too difficult to resist????

I think it is perfectly fine when single person spend his check on knives, but in case of married with 3 kids it would be better to spend money on kids, at least in most cases.

Sorry about that.

Dave, is this a marketing study? :)

Ok, go buy an inlayed Sebenza.

don't get me started on this boondoggle

while i probably won't get to share in this "stimulus" , i am certain i will get to pay for it in the future

bh49 you're 100% right, in practice if you can put the kids first... that's the right thing to do... however, what I am wondering is, (and I initially worded the question very carefully) all of us here being knife enthusiasts (and even knife nuts) people being people, which knives would they at the very least be tempted and perhaps struggling not to buy...

I plan to purchase an "EdgePro Apex" sharpener and about three nice kitchen knives, then my knife buying will be @ an end. I've acquired a nice folder & a custom damascus bowie that will last me the rest of my life. That, along with the sharpener and kitchen knives will more than fill my needs/wants. It would be nice to "acquire/collect", but being on a disability pension really doesn't allow for that.

great question. I don't think I will buy any knives, but will spend some of it on knife making stuff.

Unless my wife ok's spending it on a battle mistress!

Do to the nature of this rebate, I'm probably make it a point not to spend it goodies, but invest it instead.

Well I am putting it in my retirement account. At 27 I am behind the ball in terms of saving for the future. Grrr.

In the old days, I'd take it to the Pink Pony for a little visual entertainment. I'm a giving soul and was proud to help out with those college tuitions.

Seriously, I might use some of the $$$ to support the forums I frequent.

I've got 3 kids.
The youngest will get a supply of diapers and wipes. The two oldest, a supply of tissues for when they are crying about how mean dad is.

I wouldn't mind adding another whittler to the collection with what is left after the wife makes me fix all of the broken things in the house. I think she wants a more permenant fix than the current duct tape. She hasn't figured out that I really don't know what I am doing yet.

I think a Buck Squire (a skinny Buck 112). And a Case regular Sodbuster.

Both american made! HaHa!

Btw, anyone have and/or like the Buck squire?

Sam
