ok..so i fell into some extra money about 10 minutes ago and i think i want a new blade..

im looking for some suggestions from the experts.

im entertaining suggestions for a good fixed blade that i can take out in the field with me (field dressing game, cutting/chopping wood, etc..) and a good quality edc folder that i would use for anything from cutting boxes to whittling wood or whatever day to day situations i might run into..

i will probably stick around 100.00 or less for this knife since i have a few other things to take care of (which means giving it all to my wife..)

anxious to hear what you guys say.. if you have a picture itd be awesome if you could post it..if not its no big deal..i can google it

edit: sorry if this is the wrong section

well. for a fixed the RAT cutlery RC-3 or RC-4 are an option. but those wouldn't leave much money for the folder. if you got one of the above knives than maybe a spyderco tenacious. it is a good all around knife that you can beat on and not worry about.

ive heard some good things about RAT..is the izula any good? oh and i dont mind spending the full sum on just one knife if there is a really good one out there for a bill

For an EDC folder i would look at some of the spyderco designs, look at the delica and endura, they run around 60-70 bucks, well worth it! you can get a g10 endura right now for around 70, which is a great price! also look at the manix 2, i dont own one, but its next on my list, built like a tank and looks awesome, they run around 80 bucks... of course if you keep an eye on the for sale section here, you might be able to snag them for cheaper... Good luck man:thumbup:

BlackJack Kampr is great at those task and an impressive chopper all for about $60.00...

i definitely love spyderco's knives.. i want a manix 2...i was hoping to snap one of the s90v models when i had even more money to spend (if i could find one..i know there were only about 400) the delica has an awesome shape and the endura has the longer blade...its been a toss up between which of those i would get first. ive heard a few people mention the tenacious and how they liked it..ill look at it again..the native has also caugt my eye..

man.. i really like the rc-3 and rc-4...they seem to have it all.the izula is impressive.. the blackjack kampr i couldnt find..all i found was a big country kampr..it looked quite nice though

i have the spyderco cat and i like it a lot. should i try another maker to broaden my horizon (as far as folders go)?

the izula is great. i just got one and i love it.

if everyone keeps talkin the izula up i may have to grab one! i love the rc-4 but its double the price

well it depends on what you will use it for. if it is for more of an urban utility etc the izula is great. something bigger. the RC-4.

the ONLY thing i dont like about the izula is the size.. size wouldnt really cause me to turn my back on any specific knife but i would prefer something a little larger.

Figure out what knives you are interested in then go to youtube and watch some reviews. None of the knives talked about above are really good choices for chopping wood (take an axe). The RC 3 or Izula would be decent choices for field dressing game. The RC 4 iirc has thicker blade stock which would make it stronger and maybe better at batoning wood.

Depending on where you live you may or may not be able to carry a fixed blade knife as an edc. In fact, many (most) places have length restrictions on folders as well so you need to know your local and state laws.

Without knowing what knives you have now (other than the Cat) it's harder to make suggestions. If you don't have a good edc folder then that should be your first priority unless you live in a place where you'll be using a fixed blade everyday. The Spyderco Tenacious, or Delica would be great choices. There are also good knives from other manufacturers. The KaBar Dozier is a great knife for around $20. I picked up my Kershaw Barrage for around $35 but I don't know about availability now. You should also look at some of the Byrd knives. They are made by Spyderco.

If money is limited then figure out how often you are going to use a fixed blade before spending a lot of money on one. Better imo to get a good folder for edc if you're only going into the woods a few times a year.

Becker BK7 or BK9, come with a nice little BK13 2 inch companion fixie. Then spend 10 dollars on a carbon Mora. Then you would have a solid beater/chopper/bushwacker, a fixie companion knife, a bushcrafting fixed blade for fine tasks like skinning and carving, and 20 dollars left over for a Collins field axe or a Fiskars Woodsman folding saw. That's what I'd do anyway...

Tell us what knives you have and we can make a better suggestion as to how to expand your collection.

Is a pigs a$$ pork? :D If you're trying to spend about $100 you could get the Izula and a decent folder like one of those Buck folders in S30V I've been hearing so much about or a Spyderco Delica maybe.

The Izula is no substitute for a larger knife but I've found that it's actually a lot more usable for most tasks due to it's size and shape.

missouri. pretty lax. i can carry a good sized blade as long as it isnt auto

definitely a good point. i live in SW MO so we are in the woods quite a bit but i wont be back in them until spring when im scouting land. once that time comes ill be outdoors quite a bit

the only knife that i have that is halfway decent is the cat.. the others are cheapos..a rough rider and a winchester..i wouldnt carry either of them so basically...i just have the lone cat

The Cat's a pretty nice knife for general light edc uses. So you need to get two decent knives for $100. That's do-able. Consider the Byrd Cara Cara for your folder. The Byrd knives are made by Spyderco but less expensive. The Cara Cara is comparable to the Endura and can be found for around $20. That leaves you about $75 to $80 for a fixed blade. Some good recommendations have been mentioned in this thread but don't forget the old standards. The Buck 119 or Buck Vanguard are great knives as is the AG Russel Deer Hunter. Also there is the KaBar USMC knife. All of those can be had for $50 to $60. Do your research and let use know what you decide.
