Which knife should I get?

the buck vanguard is really nice..i love the blade/handle shape

i think im going to go with the kabar usmc for sure.. but that leaves me about 50.00 bucks... gotta find me a folder now... i really like delicas and enduras but since my collection is a single spyderco knife..i think i want to get something that isnt spyderco until my collection grows a bit

i got the izula and the rc4. covers everything i need to do.
now want is another story!!!. rc6, H.E.S.T, and izula folder next year.

not fond of any of the opinels. the rc-4 is just beautiful.

is it a coincidence that i never see anybody mention case? or is there something behind that?

Go over to the traditional forum and you'll see plenty written about Case. They make great knives, but honestly when I think of Case I think of slipjoints. I'm sure they make other good knives too, but it's the traditional folders they've made their reputation on.

for a folder i have a kershaw scallion that i use as my edc.
kershaw does have quite a few folder options. leek, blur ext.

im definitely looking at some kershaws...

i think im going to change my mind on the kabar usmc..ive seen a few people mention breakage of some sort now (which i know any knife can be subject to)..

im considering the buck vanguard still.. i know 420HC isnt the best steel but apparently buck has a reputation for their ability to heat treat their steel proper to the model knife..

if anyone can elaborate or go a bit more into buck and/or the 420HC id appreciate it

The KaBar USMC knife and the Buck Vanguard are both great knives, but they are different knives. The Vanguard is great for field dressing deer. The KaBar is more of a general purpose camp/survival knife. Check the Buck website, someone said they were selling the Vanguards at very low prices now. I have Cabela's Alaskan Guide version of the Vanguard s30v, and I believe Bass Pro shops has it in 154cm.

Unless you are getting the knife for hunting the KaBar might be better. Get the version in 1095. I think it would have to be pretty extreme abuse to break one of them they are very strong knives.

nice. i live about 7mins away from the largest basspro in the country...they have a great knife outlet..ill stop by tomorrow

If they are still available, the flat ground Endura foliage green G10 version is being seriously discounted now, around $70 if you shop around. It is so precisely made and it feels so upmarket that you'd think it is a custom.

For a nice general use fixed field knife I would consider the scandinavian brands as well - but not for chopping wood - for that a cheap axe is the way to go.

+1 on the G10 Endura. Maybe the best deal of the year, I just got mine and it's great.

For the hunting knife I would choose a Beretta Loveless Dropped Point Hunter with the zytel handle. You can get them on the bay for a little over $40 with shipping. Words cannot describe what a great game knife this is.

For the folder, you have a bunch to choose from with the money left over. Buck Vantage Pro or Select, Kershaw Ram or Shallot or OD-1, Spyderco Delica or Tenacious or any of a number of Byrd knives. It's a lot harder to recommend a folder. If the choice comes down to the Manix or Endura I think the ergonomics of the Manix are WAAYYY ahead. I own 3 different variants of the Manix 2 and I just traded my G-10 Endura. Now, if you were thinking about the G10 DELICA... now that's a great knife. The Endura is too long for my pockets.
