Which knife shows will allow me to meet the most forum members?

I have been fortunate to meet several forum members at recent shows. This has been a very enjoyable. I would like to know which shows, I would be most apt to get to meet more of you. If I can get tables I can travel anywhere in the US, to do a show. Well, which knife shows do you attend, or will you attend in the coming year?

I was at both the New York and Atlanta show and I met many more forumites in Atlanta than I did in New York. There were also many more who were there who I didn't meet. I would advise going to the Atlanta show to meet the most forumites. New York does have a decent turn out of forumites though compared to other shows but still it does not compare to Atlanta.

I am going to hit the Atlanta show this year. Mainly I just get to the smaller shows close to home. From everything I have heard and read Atlanta is the Grandaddy of all knife shows. If anyone knows a good hotel close to the show please let me know because I would like to go ahead and make reservations. Hell maybe some of us could get together and have a few beers.

I would like to hear about all of the smaller shows to, that everyone attends. I am trying to get tables for the Atlanta, and New York Show, but I will not know until closer to time, whether I will get a table or not. If enough people off of here list that they are going to a show, I may travel to it, whether I can set up or not. Thanks to those that have answered so far, and to those that will.

Hey Gene - A group of NC forumites stay at the Hampton Inn that's on the opposite side of the mall from the Blade Show's location. It is clean and quiet. The room rates are half the cost ($59 + tax per night) of the ones at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel next to the show location.

After the show, we attended the BF dinners for a while, then retired to the poolside to have a few drinks and play with all of the new toys until the wee hours of the morning.

It takes about 3 minutes to get to the show from the Hampton - at least once you know how to do it. Hint - drive across the street into the mall's parking lot. Drive to the opposite side of the mall, then cross the street directly into the Cobb Galleria Centre's parking lot. We tried driving around the mall using public streets instead of the mall's parking lot. I won't even tell you how long it took us to get to the show that first day.

There were about 9 of us piled into my van, hopelessly lost. (Hey!! Didn't we just pass that building on the OTHER side of the road?!?!)

That's an experience we'll never forget.

Lynn,

Two shows that you might consider doing are...

The SouthEastern Custom Knife Show in Winston-Salem, NC. The first weekend after Labor Day in September. The North Carolina Custom Knifemakers Guild hosts this show and it seems to get bigger and better with every year. We have makers from Japan and South Africa show up each year as well as from all over the US. It is one of the best shows we do.

The Chesapeake Knife Show in Timmonium, Maryland. December 10, 2000. It is a one day show that really gets people in. Barry and I have done this show for 2 years now and have had great success.

We haven't been to Atlanta yet but hope to within the next year or two. Maybe our paths will cross one day and we can all share some good times.

Lynn,

I live in Kentucky and usually try to hit all the shows around here if I can. I think the next one (at least that I know of) is in Covington, Ky. I don't think it is a real big show, but I am planning on going. It is sometime in March. I think the 10th through the 12th. Check that out I am not for sure.

Senator,

Thank you very much for the information. Would you happen to have a number for that hotel? That sounds like great fun. I could really get into sitting around the pool playing with knives and sipping on a few Long Island Iced Tea's

Thanks again and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Lynn: Here's another vote for your attending the Chesapeake Show in Maryland. Unfortunately, it was last weekend, but you would have recognized many of the makers there (and a lot of forumites, too). Hope to see you next year!

Senator,

Hope you have a big van

Just Kidding!

Seriously maybe I could follow you guys since you seem to know where you are going. I know nothing about Atlanta. Hell I'll be doing good to find the Hotel.

Lynn: You can meet alot of the Canadian makers who are forumites, like myself

at the Canadian National Artknife show in Bayfield, Ontario. Plus there are alot of foreign (U.S. and others) makers there too

Gene - if you had been with us when it took an hou... uhhh, so long
wink.gif
to drive the few blocks from the hotel to the show that first day, you would NOT be following us!

Seriously, I hope to have a bunch of forumites staying there next year. That would be a blast. Feel free to drop me a line as the show gets closer and we'll hook up.

If you haven't seen them, here are my pics from this year's show. Many of the NC forumites are there.

Gene, I was one of the guys in that van last year, no room for anybody else with all of Dexter Ewings knives...

Seriously Atlanta isnt that hard to get around if you know where your going, I got from the airport via train and then bus, and if I would have known where the hotel was, would have had about 500 feet to walk, needless to say I hiked for about 4 hours to find the hotel right behind the bus stop...
smile.gif

The good thing is it only cost $1.50 to get all the way across town. Contact me and maybe we can make the voyage from the airport next year together it would be fun using mass transit with someone without a bottle of beer...

Lynn,
I noticed no one put down any shows in the midwest. I'll be at the Badger Knife Show in Janesville, WI, March 24-26

I also attended the Chesapeake Knife Show in Maryland last week. I met Damon there.

I also met Pat Crawford and Les Robertson.

I'll be at the Blade show in Atlanta. Not staying at a hotel, I live about 20 mins. up the road, unless its rush hour then it could take 2 hours.

pyrguy,
you forgot to mention that rush hour in Atlanta is pretty much 6 hours long, twice a day
