I know I'm not the only one with this problem.... As I'm reading the forum I'm tying a turkshead knot (on a flashlight this time, but it could just as well be on a knife handle) and I have to cut the cord. I have three knives in reach -- no, six -- no, seven. There are seven knives I can pick up without getting out of my chair (let's not even get into how many more are in the house). They are all good and sharp. Any one of them could do the job equally well. Which one should I use???

. . .

I used the Sebenza -- this time. But in a minute I'm going to have to cut the cord again ...

You should use each knife to cut 1/ N of the way through the cord. N being the numbers of knives you have. Then give us a cutting efficiency mean for each knife +-(4) with 95% confidence ratio.

:p

SHouldn't this be in W&C? Maybe I can find a mod somewhere to move it. ;)

OK I'll fess up....

If there's a bunch of knives within reach ...then I'd be paralyzed for a few seconds. If no other knives are around, then whichever knife is in my pocket ( but don't ask how long it takes to decide which one goes in my pocket).

i would just pick the one closest to you, so you dont need to reach your arm so far:cool:

I really, really like the tingling in my brain when I cut some paracord, or for that matter seat belt, with a brand new knive. I have TOTAL control of the cutting. It is like cutting through hard cheese. Making feather sticks with a new knife is a dream too. Unfortunately I can not get that reall really sharp feeling in my knives again. I am using the mousepad and 600 paper and it doesnt really get that crispy sharpness I want.

So which knife should you pick? The newest one because it is probably the sharpest. :)

The guillotine.:D

I could give you a quick solution but it may just be a superficial fix and I suspect that there may be deeper underlying issues here.

I bought a Wella gas soldering iron and it comes with a hot knife blade ,use it all the time to cut and seal at the same time.:)

While other are polking fun at you, I have been seriously considering your dilemma. The problem is not as simple as it appears. We have yet to consider the ergonomics of your chair, lighting, ambient temperature, blood sugar level, coordination, fine motor skills... More info is needed.:D

You mean, none of those seven knives has been specifically optimized for cutting string? What kind of blade enthusiasts are you???? :)

We have to get some serious suggestions on here. What's the inclusive angles on the edges and what grit are they sharpened at? Right tool for the jobs guy...

Doesn't work for me. I've never gotten a new knife yet that was sharp enough to suit me. It doesn't work to pick the one I sharpened most recently either; I give them a few licks on a tripoli-charged strop more often than they need it so they're all equally sharp just about all the time....
