I'm wondering which Spyderco would be the best to be used in an emergancy situation in a car such as cutting loose seat belts etc.? I wanted to get one for myself and one for the wife.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bill

I would say the Assist with the glass breaker, especially if you live near water and your car has electric windows.

Well YaB you again beat me to the draw. I have had an ASSIST I model with glassbreaker on my sunvisor for the last 2 years. I literally wouldn't go anywere without it in my truck or traveling with anyone else as far as that goes. The Glassbreaker does indeed work well. But please do your testing on a junk car :o It's probably thEE most under-appreciated knives in the entire Spyderco line up.

Most of the time I keep a pair of Multitools with me as well. I have a Victorinox SWISS TOOL and a Spyderco Spyderench. And the 2 of them have come in handy on several occasions.

Other blades to consider for keeping handy in your vehicle would be the following Spyders.
Stainless handled Rescue models C-14 & C-45
Mariner SE
Fully serrated Police model
~~~ The main thing to consider for the car/truck is to have a top notch serrated blade to get you out of a seatbelt in situation you might not be able to free yourself otherwise. The ASSIST I is truly a dream knife for that job. JD :)
Any full size (Endura size) with a fully serrated blade should be fine.
In the case of me needing to break glass, I am confident that if I stab the window with just about any knife the glass will break. I've broken windows with the back end of an SS Delica 4 before, it worked extremely well.
If you're buying knives just for this purpose get the Assist. If you already have some serrated knives laying around I would just toss them in the vehicle.
Spydercos in my pocket for sure, but the emergency knife in my car's center console is a SAK One-handed Fireman, because it's a great and versatile knife that can be obtained for about $25. I have Res-Q-Me spring-loaded glass breaker/belt cutters within reach of both front seats.
I have an Assist One is all my vehicles. Its the perfect car emergency knife. There is also on in my daypack in case im riding with someone else.
I carry the Assist myself. Fell in love with it the moment I got it. It's a great cutting knife, not just for rescue work. I also carry a ResQMe on my keychain.
I keep a big Ka-Bar Kukri in the storage compartment in my trunk. I always have my EDC with me, so I figure if I need another knife for some reason, it had better be a BIG one. The guys at Tires Plus got a big kick out of my Kukri when they discovered it the other day. (I got big grins and an "AWWWW YEAH!") When the big Spyderco chopper comes out, it'll go into my trunk instead. You never know when you're gonna need to wreck something. I used to carry an Estwing Axe in my car too, but I found out that the knife is better at chopping everything except for large trees (when what you really need is a chainsaw).
Yeah I got some big Busse knives for the trunk. Although I don't know how well a CGFBM would go over with my wife. :)
I wanted something that she can get easily and use to cut seat belts or something. The Assist sounds like the ticket.
