This isn't a ' Which are your favorite knives ' thread, this is a which knives actually see the most use. Many of you are probably like me and try and rotate through your knives that you carry on hikes etc just to keep it interesting but very often being carried is all they do.

My knives that see the most use are usually the ones that I use around the house/garden. These knives are used for tasks such as making kindling for my woodstove, fuzz sticks for the same or just general day to day tasks that call upon a sharp object.

Here are the four that I use the most often, two of them, the Chopweiler and the small ML knife very rarely see any field time but I've still used the heck out of them. The Vic Soldier is carried with me nearly all the time and rarely does a day pass when it isn't called into service. The fourth and final knife, my Breeden Woody , is nearly always the first knife I grab when heading out on a hike, it's probably the closest to ' my perfect knife ' that I've owned so far.

Cold Steel Pocket Bushman
Opinel No.8--both carbon clip and stainless pruner
Mora #333 machete
Condor Rodan
Baryonyx prototype
Condor Viking
Imacasa 18" 1222 (sadly, that length is discontinued--it's the perfect size!)
Condor Bush Knife
Case swayback jack

Kitchen/Rabbit and Chicken Butchering
F. Dick ErgoGrip extra-wide trimming knife
F. Dick 3" ProDynamic paring knife
F. Dick 4" poultry and rabbit knife
F. Dick 5" angled stiff boning knife
Victorinox 3" serrated paring knives (we have 3 of them that get used for petty tasks like makin' snacks)

99% of my time is spent outside of the woods, so it limits when I can use one of the many sheath knives that I have.
Daily EDC around property/Town usually there are two or three folders on me, Benchmade 940 clipped to front right pocket.
Large Stockmen or Trapper in left front & lastly on the belt Icarry a Boker 3000 lock back or Leatherman super tool.
Pocket carry might change. I just got my third GEC #85 I'am really loving this pattern just dont know about carrying a 1095 carbon steel in a sweaty pocket.

I always have either my Vict. SAK Alox Farmer or Hiker in my pocket & either my Spyderco Endura4 waved PE or my ZT0350. As for my Fixed blades, my "Big knife" I usually go to is my BK9 & to be honest I love my Tram 14" machete, it see's alot of use ! I also like to have either my Izula or BHK Tiger Knapp on my neck or in my back pocket.

In answer to the original question. The cheapest most available knifes. I don't believe quality is a serious variable.

The most used knives come under the disposable knife category.

I didn't understand your answer at first Ed but I'm thinking that you are speaking about people using knives in general and not people on this forum. I would quite agree that the most widely used knives in the world would be cheap, disposable types as you say but I was really aiming my question at the folks on this forum. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Pit -

I use my JK Modified Wharncliffe nearly every day for kitchen duty - I use it to make my lunches in the morning and also for most dinner cutting needs.

Also in the used-daily category is my Vik Waiter - it cuts up my apple and cheese every day, and also opens tuna cans when necessary.

These two knives get the most use by far. They're light, shaving-sharp, hold a decent edge and are easy to hone. I have a lot of beefier knives that I like, but they tend to live in the drawer. I'm from the school of thought that if you need to chop or split something you should cary an ax, and for me the little puukkos are better cutters than my thicker knives. Since the majority of my cutting is on wood, the scandi grind works well.

I'd imagine that in a year or two my most used knives will be different, but I bet they will be pretty similar in size and weight.

PItdog: Just look through the form and see how many knives you see that are in or close to "Mint Condition". And then try to find some that have been used hard.
This is my point, I did not mean to hijack your thread, but could not help but comment.

If I knew how to post photos I would, but my woman who used to do that for me is gone so I am back to writing only. I do have some photos of really used knives that would make my point more meaningful, but anyone can see them at any gun show and even knife shows.

cold steel recon i can never keep an edge on it for very long because i am so hard on it. other than that my benchmade rift then the triage.

I use my first Bravo 1 (A2) more than any other. I like it because it's very thick, but always shaving sharp thanks to the easily maintained convex grind. Here it is next to my other hiking companion:

Mine is so pretty because it just got back from BRKT from a spa treatment

CRKT drifter. Not afraid to use it or lose it. Probably accounts for 50+% of my usage

The knife I use most is probably my Victorinox farmer. If we are talking outdoors and not as an EDC, then it'll be one of my customs from Bruce or Christof. Closely followed by a Condor 15" bolo.

Not to be obtuse, but what exactly is your point? Are you saying that people only really use their cheapest knives?

He was making a comment on how if you make a judgment based on the pics available on the forum then people must be using their cheap stuff instead of their expensive stuff. Of course we're all most inspired to take photos when we've just received a new knife, and many of us clean up our knives when they get dirty. :)

No - what I am saying is that the knives most photographed and posted on forms are not necessarily a representative sample of knives that are used a lot.

Most of the knives on this thread show some use, I like to see that. When I see a knife at a show that has obviously been through hard use I take time and pay attention, for these used knives are testament to the quality and integrity of the maker's dedication and knowledge at the time they were made.

Interesting that you reach for the 4"-5" fixed blade and the SAK... and they look like they've been used a lot. I've found that the bushcrafters I find the most illuminating--like Mors or Ray Mears--always go for the 4"-5" fixed blade and the SAK. :D
