What made me think of it was a pic of an knife listing on the Exchange. Look at the plunge grind and imagine what's going to happen in the first few sharpenings: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/luft-concepts-avant.1884967/

You mean like this ?

Come on .... it's just a beauty mark !

I am so sick of knives that are festooned in that gaudy garish swirly timascus/mokuti stuff. I guess if you're looking for a quick pop of color a clip or backspacer might work, but why in gods name would you want a knife that looks like Laffy Taffy on a bad acid trip.

You've got your gas station knives, and you've got your whore house knives....

I think one of the most useless knives I have bought was a Camillus Lev-R-Lok. It was a bad concept executed poorly.
As a lefty, i hated that that knife,i gave it away,as well as that other one they had w that round disk that you pushed foward to open the blade.....

There are always exceptions but, combo edges are pretty much at the top of my list of knife dislikes.
A fully serrated blade is fine.

Metal scales are also on my list but, they are acceptable on light duty knives like a SAK Cadet or Pioneer.
Skeleton metal scales (think Gerber Paraframe) is a no go from the start.

As for Spyderco knives, overall they define the term “butt ugly”. I also don’t really care for how much pocket real estate they use.
Ergonomics is another issue. They can be amazing if you get the right knife.

Let’s see…not real fond of clip point blades but I would make an exception for the right Buck 112 Ranger.

Tactical knives are something I try to stay away from. Cold Steel this means you.

I’m glad we made it through that copper/brass phase. Those knives were heavy!!
I know, I was shocked upon receiving my only copper knife to date, the PM2 full milled copper, that there are people who purport to carry whole matching copper sets... lighter, flashlight, knife... insanity, and I have a greater definition of heavy t than most.

Oh, and I had a thought about all the tactical stuff.

Come to think of it, things like tantos, "tactical" daggers, anything like that... I only want it in a Cold Steel Voyager-esque XL format. If it isn't big, ridiculous, but can still cut like hell, I am not in. All the "nice" companies out there that offer tantos... I would never get a CRK or Hinderer tanto, if I was gonna get one of those. I already have this desire mostly satiated, as my Schrade MKII rip-off is a fun enough toy to play with, as are other daggers I got in that stage before I knew what anything was. Love my Microtech UTX-70, but unless I decide to go for a Merlot model, instead of the black... that's that with that style. I am past the point of thinking you NEED some crazy Cold Steel stuff to have the foot up if having to utilize it in defense, but 3" can go a lot further and with more control, but do not want to spill into prac-tac.

Point is - I ONLY want that stuff from Cold Steel, because they are Cold Steel (and not in anything but AUSx, SK5, S35VN made in Taiwan or the good drop-forged stuff, whatever steel it is/was in) Maybe I will buy a half-serrated Byrd if I ever am re-doing a house.

Some more great quotes

Laffy Taffy on a bad acid trip.
Had a few clips like this. Thought they would look good on a simple Ti floral engraved PM2. It... did not. While I like some people's yellow/green/purple dyed Spydercos, I have to say, agreed on the dang Timascus look! Looks cheap! Thankfully, they were. And someone else said it, the expensive Ti pocket clips that SUCK as pocket clips. Glad I never paid money for one of those.
As we say here in South Texas, "...as ugly as a can of mashed a$$holes".

P.S Locutus D'Borg Locutus D'Borg ... I was talking about the Strider, not the CRK, when I said "NOM NOM NOM MONEY MONEY MONEY" just so you are aware 😂 I would use a good CRK if I found one on the ground. And I am sorry about The James Brand my good sir, you like what you like my man 😁👍

I think my biggest pet peeves in knives are blade stock that is too thick, usually because they are designing the knife to be used as an axe, and then they make a tool that doesn’t work well as a knife and still doesn’t work well as an axe either 🙄
The other thing I dislike is a point that sits way up high on a blade. A lot of clip points are made this way, a good example is an opinel. What good is the point that is turned up aimed in the opposite direction from the sharpened end of the blade? I suppose it is good for skinning, but really nothing else. I like a point either centered in the blade like a spear point or toward the bottom like a lamb foot or wharncliffe, so it can be used to do fine cutting, draw cuts, etc.

If you imagine the tip of the knife is an arrow, I want my arrow pointing forward or down, and not at the sky

I never have been a fan of metal handles, unless it's lightweight like aluminum in autos.

I cannot stand the smell and feel of copper, and hope this copper phase is over soon.

I don't like copper anywhere on a knife either. In fact, the only place I do like copper is on the bottom of a Revere Ware sauce pan.

I use to live above a Spanish grocery store (bodega) growing up. Naturally when I heard about a knife named “Bodega” I was 100% in it to win it. What a crushing blow to my childhood. Not just aesthetically unpleasant, but a knife named bodega ends up being made in China. That’s like naming a knife moo goo gai pan and finding out it’s made in Puerto Rico.
