Which large folder for EDC?

I really need some help. I've been away from the knife world for a couple of years and now I'm feeling the itch again. What I would like to find is a folder with a blade between 3.5 and 4 inches that is slim enough for EDC to rotate with my small Sebenza. My budget is around $400 but I can go higher if I find something I REALLY like. I'm particularly interested in hearing about some of the newer knives out there that I have not seen yet.

Thanks,
Kevin

Try Rick Hinderer's work. He makes some great titanium framelocks and I believe you can get a big one also. Darrel Ralph and Neil(?) Blackwood would also be custom makers to check out.

i'm a big fan of the Strider SnG or SMF in that price/size range. tough, sharp, beautiful and perfectly designed...

Umm- a Large Sebenza? ;)

My favorite large EDC's in no particular order -

MT Amphibian
MT LCC
Spyderco Military S30V
Al Mar S2K
SRKW Rat Trap

If you don't like liner locks - a BM Axis like the 710 or 806D2 makes a terrific EDC.

If you really want to spend $400, the Strider SnG has earned a solid reputation as an outstanding high end production EDC. Or go with a custom.

I prefer "tactical" folders, so if that's not your taste then this might not help!

I've owned probably 10 different Sebenzas over the years and I love the design, but I was hoping to find something else this time around. I do prefer a "tactical" style knife with a strong lock.

Are the the Strider SnGs thinner than the ARs? I used to have an AR that I really liked, however it was just to thick for an EDC.

The SnG is a very popular Strider, I think largely because it's more suitable for EDC than their larger, thicker offerings like the SMF and AR/GB.

Given your stated preference, I'd certainly give the SnG a look. There are plentiful comments on the SnG in the "reviews" forum.

In that general price range Mike Obenauf, or the Carson/Obenauf/Carson collaboration would be my choice. Scott Cook's Lochsa is very nice too.

Has anyone seen anything from Rick Hinderer, lately, except for colaborations?
His Web Site is down.

I am a big fan of Tom Mayo's large TNT for everday carry. For Sundays and special occasions I have a medium Mayo TNT that is Devin Thomas damascus. Before the Mayos I carried a tanto SNG.

Strider sng, smf, BM 710, lone wolf t-2, Spyderco military, Spyderco Chinook, those are a few of my favorites.

I would look at DMKnives, Rick Hinderer, Tom Mayo, Darrell Ralph,Mission Knives & Tools, RJ Martin......

Hi Guys and gals! Thanks so much for the recommendation! Yes, I am still coming up with new knives and design ideas besides the collabs I have with Gerber and Benchmade...I am sorry my website is down right now as I build a new one which shows all the new stuff I have been working on...for a teaser here is a new blade grind that I came up with for my Gen II Flame model..its a modified tanto/spearpoint I call a "Spanto" :) This folder is also a framelock..Thanks and I'll have my site up shortly!

Ooooooh, I really like that!! Sweet! I can not wait until your site is back up!!

Yeah, that Hinderer guy is pretty good. ;) :)

Strider AR is currently my personal favorite in the big folder catagory. But, for a lot less money, the Buck/Strider large spearpoint is a winner, IMHO.
