Which Luminox?

I know that many of y'all own Luminox watches, so I'm hoping that y'all can help me with my indecision. I can't decide between the 3000, 3100, and 3200 series. I don't know of anywhere that I can actually handle one, but they look like the steel cases of the latter two could be pretty heavy, but I'm leery of plastic watch cases because I've had strap pins wear and wallow out the holes. I like the yellow face available on the first two, but I like that the 3200 series doesn't say "Navy Seals". I'm not looking for someone to tell me which to buy, I'd just like to hear from people have handled them and can address the weight/wear issue.

Hi Archie,

LUMINOX! I love them. I have an Original SEAL Dive Watch/Yellow Face #3005 and a Captain's Field Watch/Black Face #1562. I've had them both for two years and they put my Seiko Chronograph on the "back burner." If I had the money, I seriously would buy one of almost every model (I don't think there is any model I don't like).

Right now, I'm hunting for a distributor to cut me a deal on one or two new models. I've put out several calls. Top on my list is the Titanium SEAL watch (#3602) or the Stainless steel SEAL Dive watch (#3210). Maybe also the SEAL watch with Carbon Fiber bezel (#3102). Any dealers can email me with price.

My "plastic" 3005 looks brand new. I wear it about half the time and I'm on the second band (just bought the nylon/velcro "SEAL" band shown on the Series II watches). There have been no problems with it breaking or wearing out...None. A friend of mine is a SWAT trainer (ex-marine demolitions guy) and he has beat the daylights out of his. He's reported no problems and still loves it.

I don't think you can go wrong with whatever model you want to get. Best of luck on your decision!

The only con for me about the Titanium 3602 is that there are no numbers on the watch face, only the usual time markers. If it had numbers, it would be the pefect watch.

However, although the watch band does scratch fairly easily, the sapphire crystal is clear and allows for easy viewing. Also the tritium vials are highly visible at night.

Got mine here: http://www.tripleaughtdesign.com/3602.htm

JCHH,

I have a 3602 also. If you want numbers on the watch, you have to get the Sharper Image version which costs $500. I believe they have an exclusive agreement on that dial style.

I've got the 3400 (black steel cse, black face, and black stainless steel band), and I love it. The only visible wannabe markings are USAF STEALTH on the face in small type, although there is an F117 emblem on the bezel. The band is highly adjustable, and has a little swing-out link that makes it extra big, so you can wear it over your flight suit sleeve.

When you first put it on, it feels a little heavy and moves around a bit as you twirl your arm, but once your skin under the band gets a little moist, it stays in place.

As of tomorrow (Monday) I'll have a model 3105 "on the way" from a purchase here at BladeForums.

NOTE: The guy that I'm buying this Luminox from, (Jim O'Young), is even letting me, (a TOTAL stranger to him), make "time-payments" on this watch while I have it "on my wrist"!.

BTW, I have a NICE Seiko Kinetic Sports 100 (model SKJ018) watch for sale here at "The Trading Post: Everything but knives" forum.

Glockman, let me know what you think of the watch when you get it...that is the one that I'm leaning towards right now.

I really like the 3100 series. I wear mine almost daily. I like Luminox so well that I have started selling them as well as knives.

I got my Luminox 3101 last summer for my birthday and I have not taken it off since. (Well almost never!) I love it. You can wear it dressy or out in the woods. It is rugged, yet sophisticated and it keeps GREAT time. Ilove hte hands/dials and their brightness and it has been a great time piece. the 3100 series is a great combination of the steel and rubber combo. The sturdiness of the steel around the moving parts and the lightweight part of the rubber on the band. GREAT combo in myhumble opinion.

I know that Botach Tactical has gotten some bad press in the forums in the past, but I have had nothing but GREAT transactions with them. got my 3101 last year and it was the cheapest place to find them. Good luck on your decision.

BTW--I tried them all on in a Service Merchandise last year...imagine that SM had Luminox...all the different styles too.

those luminox watches are definitly a tough watch - my bud is a framing contractor, and he is hard on a watch (eg plain wore out a TAG proffesional in about 18 months) just beats them to hell and back - also a big time salt water fisherman - all this is HARD on a watch - his luminox is still going strong after 2 yrs - his is like the model shown w/the yellow face, cept his has a black/or maybe dark blue face - but 1 helluva watch for rough service - salt water is very hard on them, i think thats what killed his TAG - check out www.timezone.com for watch info - also several other watch forums ya can check out - but i would give the luminox a high grade on durability, and imho they look good too -

Hey Dann,

Amazing watch, huh? My #3202 will be here tomorrow. That's what the UPS tracking says. I'm jazzed and can't wait.

I'm impatient. It's my Father's Day gift from my five-year-old and two-year-old sons (at least that's how I'm rationalizing it

).

Dann,

That's a good endorsement to hear since I got impatient and ordered one from Dennis earlier this week

Hi Rick,

I have the same model (I think). I have the #1562. Looks exactly like yours (my catalog does not have a #1561).

I've had it for two years and it is very nice. Slim. Not too heavy. Classy appearance. Leather band.

OK...the leather band. If yours has the exact same one I received, it is very high qualtiy, but, I found it too thick and it never "broke in." I would bend it and bend it. I'd bend it backwards and forwards, over and over. It just never became subtle. I eventually bought a thinner leather band that was more pliable. This is a minor thing that cost me about $30 to change. It's worth it for the right watch.

Contratulations. I know you will like it.

Ron

Ron,

I can't wait.

I could have got it for $125, but paid $150 for the 1561 with black leather strap.

Thanks for the advise.

Would saddle soap help break it in?

Any advise?
