Which makers would you like to see more often available on retailer sites?

As for me, I have only seen the work of Harumi Hirayama available once (from Nordic, snatched I believe by Dave Ellis within 4.7 sec). As for Jurgen Steinau, I have *never* seen any of his knives available anywhere....

 - those were MY choices! (I believe Hirayama's knives START at about $3,000....so maybe it's not a bad thing...;) )

I would just like to actually HANDLE one.

Guys,

You have answered your own question. Almost all of the makers listed here have very limited production. I don't think Jim Fikes has a phone. I know a few years back you had to leave a message and someone would get it to him.

Wulf you echoed,

Russ Andrews: Due to health reasons he made knives in the single digits last year.

Dan Farr has made only single digits since the Blade Show last year.

Michael Connor: Does he even still make knives??

Nick Wheeler: Single Digits for the last year.

Walter Brend: From January 2005 through Feb 2006 all he made were the Anniversary knives (and a few for memebers of the Military).

Lee Williams: Single digits for the last year.

THe list goes on. Guys if the makers don't have them to sell...the dealers can't get them.

Good points, Les.

Retailer sites for me are just eye candy, but I would love to see more Tim Zowada and Rob Hudson knives.
Robbin Hudson, I know you mean. Good choice. (These days you need to be specific. There is a Rob Hudson whose work is readily available, nicely made, and MUCH cheaper. But he is a smaller stock-removal maker from PA.) Another case of low production.

Terry Davis always mentioned in the same breath with the Boses and Shadley but rarely does his work come up on eth secondary market.

You know, the irony of this discussion is that some of the makers mentioned also maintain a policy of not pre-selling knives to dealers before the doors open at a knife-show. For reasons I won't get into here, it's a policy for which I have tremendous respect, but it also means that those knives will probably never show up in a dealer's inventory or be available to a wider audience...

Makers can always sell items to retailers - just not their show inventory the evening before the show.
