i can pick this up locally, and wait for the 20% off coupons they send out now and then

and then there is this http://www.grizzly.com/products/G0463

what should i expect for a difference? other than the table travel and motor HP etc, thats already listed?

thanks again guys. just tryinng to figure out which one i should go with. maybe someone has some insight on either machines and if they're better than the other or if its the old spray em different colors and slap on different stickers game.

i have seen the grizzly do some work.. and thats a nice machine:thumbup:

thanks again

Looks like they're both the same Sieg machine to me. I'd guess that Grizzly is being more conservative (honest?) about the motor HP and has specified a longer table.

It has been mentioned in other mill threads that those two, including another tool supply company(dont remember the name) all are selling the same exact mill, only different paint. If it were me, I would get the Super X3, that is what I am saving up for. It has the VFD built into the quill for pushbutton speed control, the head rotates up to 90deg, has reversing switches built into the spider handles, and the motor is a hair bigger.

Michael I don't own one but if I ever get a mill one of the selling point's would
be (If it breaks can I get parts for it ) . Goodluck !

I have that mill from grizzly, and for me it works great, pretty stable, and I have had no problems with it. I bought some of those cheap DRO scales and mounted it to mine and it is right on the money. For knifemaking I think it is a good compromise between the mini-mill which I also have and a much bigger machine.
Any questons email wil@hurleyknives.com

Whoa there. Scratch that. Sorry its a different machine than I thought at first glance.

No need to post since I know little about that one.

However I believe that both the HF and the Grizzly machines including the one I own are Sieg machines underneath.

I use the equivalent one from www.micromark.com. Honestly, I really like it and have had no issues with it except breaking a sacrificial nylon drive gear which was my fault. Even still, they replaced the gear free (normally $8) and were extremely helpful on all my calls for setup and operation.

alright, just what i wanted to hear. should work out perfect if i can get it from HF. that 20% off would be sweet, then again it is about 100 bucks more through them, and it culd be a big old hassle, drive an hour+ away to hassle the guys a few times just to see if they can even get it in the store for me so i can use the 20% off coupon.

hmmm. more research needs to be done. thanks again guys

Unlikely you'd get it in store, where the coupon savings would apply,
along with saving whatever on shipping.

I got mine from HF's web site and am 100% happy with. It and Grizzly's regular
X3 are exact same mill, just different color. Grizz also carries what's known as
"Super X3". I think "regular" X3 is more robust, there were reports from folx having problems with SX3's electronics.

About the only additional feature of SX3 that I can find some use for, is tilting head. The rest don't matter to me much:

- built-in Z-depth digital scale is superceded with me home-made 3-axis DRO
- fine Z-feed I superceded with adjusteable quill-stop, ala Bport
- regular X3 also have variable speed drive and I did move the RPM pot to the head, where it is easier to deal with. 5 min job
- the extra power of SX3 doesn't matter to me much. If ever need more, I will replace the motor and the controller with goodies from surpluscenter.com - much the same way I did it on my 9x20 , for total cost of $100, for super-reliable solution

Rashid, the Grizzly lists a 3+" longer table on the X3 than HF. I seem to remember reading the HF table was actually the longer one, despite listed dimension.
Then, Grizzly lists the shorter table on the SX3. Gets confusing.

What is the length of the table on your HF X3?

Thanks.

well i think i'm going to go with the grizzly, once all is said and done, if i bust their chops enough to get them to ship to the store so ican save the 20%, and go through all the junk and driving there and picking it up, its not worth it to me. for 100 bucks more i can have it shipped to my house from grizzly with no BS

well my local hf has a fullsize mill for $999 -stopped in today to look-came close to buying a generator, the one with a subaru engine

Fitzo -

the X3 from Grizz and HF are _exactly_ identical, in every single
respect, including _all_ dimensions, 'cept color.

The uncertainty around sizes kept me from ordering one from HF till I got
plenty of proof from others. I even called Chris @ littlemachineshop - he saw
both versions @ Sieg in China.
