I recently acquired a black digicam s30v spyderco military and I love it from blade shape, length, to handle ergo. Now if I plan to get more, which millie would you suggest next and why? thanks in advance.

No military collection is complete without a Ti scaled millie, the new 110 version, and maybe a cruwear. That'll keep you busy for awhile :-)

Mike

Didn't know the TI handled Millitary's were still available. Always wanted one, since I just love Millie's. They're the mostest. ;-)

OK thx. I see spyderco military plain titanium with frame lock and also spyderco military in fluted titanium with liner lock. Arethese what the above folks were talking about?

OK. Another question: from when did Sal put lockbar insert on spyderco military ti? None of the pictures that I found online has a lockbar insert. What am I missing?

I'm not sure on when, but most of the recent Ti Millies floating around (particularly here on the TP) have the insert. Spyderco hardens their Ti lockfaces, though, so even those without the insert should still function well.

I'd second getting a Ti Millie—whether you get one of the Sprints or a plane-Jane production versions, it's a wonderful knife.

My personal favorite Millie is my CPM M4 Ti/G10 sprint run. Second best would be my very well used Foliage Green in CPM D2. The one getting my attention now is the upcoming 52100 Millie. It might be my next Millie. There are a lot of good ones to choose from.

The only Military I own is the Ti model. I absolutely love it. It's a heavy beast and a super slicer at the same time. Lots of pocket time. I eventually want to get the 52100/CF sprint coming up.

I highly recommend the regular ti millie. Personally I prefer the regular ti over the fluted ti. My other choice would be the upcoming sprint in 52100.

Surfingringo, why do you prefer the regular Ti over the fluted Ti? I haven't handled either of them and like my regular G10 version so much that I thought I might try a Ti.

I've heard it said that the regular ti is more comfortable during extended use.

Waiting for the green one from Knifeworks. I think I put my email on the list, 8, maybe 9 months ago? Lol.

A few thoughts for thread consideration ...

Seems to me that the additional grip provided by the fluting is of huge benefit from a working & grip retention standpoint (especially in wet and/or cold condition when Ti is not really at its best from a retention and comfort perspective). Grip retention is why I prefer the RIL-G10 version of the Military so much (Ti frame lock one side with peal-ply G10 on pocket-clip side). Additionally, the weight reduction of half G10 makes daily carry much nicer imho.

Additionally, the fluted version is a fair bit lighter than the full Ti, and the profiled scales (similar to Slysz Bowie) feel nice both in hand and in pocket. Kinda like a CC (concealed carry) mod. that other mfr's do to some of their better selling models. I could however see how some may feel the fluted version is perhaps a bit too narrow for a hard use working knife ...? (Possibly what Sosa was eluding to in post above?) I am very curious to hear another fisherman's posting of view on this (Surfringo and/or ?).

I think this happened late 2011.

If I'm not mistaken ..., shortly after the RIL/G10 M4 Steel version and the first production run of the Fluted version (circa 2011) were the last of the non-stainless frame-lock insert. It would be my "guess" that the blade tange ramp for the lockbar may have also changed (please correct me on this if I am wrong :-)

In case there is any question/confusion as to what you are looking for here are a couple pic's with markups illustrating stainless insert in Ti lockbar:

Its mainly just the aesthetics the I prefer. The fluted version is a bit too "bling" for me. It's pretty and all but I just prefer the simple look and feel of the regular ti. Some people prefer the fluted version for its lighter weight but I kind of like the weight of the regular too. Feels like a big ole slab of American quality. :) Both are great but I prefer the one that is a bit cheaper so its an easy call for me.
