Which Mora knife? Numbers so confusing!

Hey Guys!

I have been wanting a cheap fixed blade, and have learned that many of you love the Mora's. I keep hearing about the Mora clipper, but it seems that from Bens backwoods, they only have the companion...The clipper isnt the same as the companion right? I see the there is a Frost Cliipper? What is a frost? I see that there is a frost 760...is the 760 a clipper then? It seems that the clipper is harder to find now...

Of out of the cheaper Mora's like the 760,711, 511,546, 746, companion, which is the best? ( none of those are a clipper design right)? Is there an easy way to distinguish what knife is what by the different numbers? I really want to get into the Mora knives, but which one should i start with?

Just seems so confusing for a newbie like me! Thanks!!

The Companion is the new upgraded version of the Clipper. The sheath is improved, the grip is more comfortable, and the tang is longer. My favorite models are the Companion MG Stainless, and the 760, though its sheath sucks compared to the Companion.

Check out the bushcraft series, Force in Sandvic. The blade is a little longer, thicker and taller than the clippers. It is a few bucks more, around $30.00. I just found one in desert camo on e-pay and bought it last night. I beat my first one as hard as any knife. It almost makes me sick inside how well these blades perform compared to blades ten times their price.

Ragweed Forge has a very good Mora page that includes photos and specifications laid out in a convenient way.
Even when I don't buy through Ragweed I still use this page as a reference.

So when people say that they love the clipper, does that mean they generally love the companion as well?

So the most popular Mora is generally the clipper/companion?

The 711 is a hell of a workingknife. You should try out a couple of modells, for finding the best for you. They´re pretty cheap but give you a lot value for your hard earned money.

Kind regards

I'm pretty fond of the 711 in Carbon myself the handle as well as the blade steel are outstanding for the money it is my go to truck knife the only downside I can think of with any Mora knife is the somewhat shoddy sheath (but serviceable) that is supplied with the knife but even that is not enough to turn me away.

How bad are the sheaths? If i don't plan on changing the sheath, will i be safe (like will the knife come out of the sheath randomly and cut me or something)?

I find the 840/Clipper/Companion to be the best for me. The sheath could be better, but it is hard for me to spend $25 to $30 for a sheath upgrade on a $15 knife. Someday I plan trying to make a Kydex one myself.

The sheath is not safe. It's a pos. But, I wouldn't feel to bad about a buying a sheath that cost more then the knife. After all, you can use the sheath for similar sized mora's. There are some good sheath makers here on the forum.

The sheaths on the Companion models are excellent, by contrast. As good as kydex as far as I'm concerned.

Don't sweat over the factory sheath until you actually have one in hand. They're not the worst sheaths in existence.

BTW guys, in case you didn't already know, FortyTwoBlades is a dealer who sells Moras. Maybe he's just too tactful to shout "COME AND GET EM!" But I have no problem shilling for him ;)

I love my Mora Forest Bushcraft. Sheath is nice too. Mine was $34.

So if i put the mora companion or some other mora in my bag, would the sheath come out if it is jostled and i reach into my bag to get it?

Is the companion's sheath the best mora sheath?

I think stainless is the best choice for a BOB that will go unattended for months at a time. I have considered epoxying a strip of Velcro to my sheath to hold the handle of the knife more securely in the event of a fall or accident.

What you mean BOB?

Are the moras safe to throw in a bag and be jostled around in with the sheath that they come in?
