I'm hunting for a mora for my son and I. We will be using them for mainly carving wood, (we want to make some kool walking sticks) for our walks, hikes, into the woods. We may do some batoning, more than likely I'll have the bk9 for that or a small hatchet.

My son is 15 adult size, he's no slouch. We both want a carbon knife, but I'm not sure which to get?
Companion, clipper, 2000. I know I can't go wrong with any, but I just wanted to ask first.
Thanks

You can't go wrong with any of them, but I like the perfect simplicity of the classic #2. I prefer it to my companion.

Got my son the Orange Bushcraft - it's plenty thick enough for any of the tasks we use it for.

Mora Companion MG should do nicely. I rather like 12c27 stainless however carbon steel works good as well. Heck buy one of each.

For wood carving get a 106 and a 122. They are harder than those listed and they are meant for wood carving. If you want a dual purpose knife, the core of the laminated blades are harder than the carbon blades, but cost quite a bit more. If simplicity is your thing the 511 will work as well as most of them for carving.

My choice for carving is the #11675: The HighQ Allround Carbon

I find the shorter blade easier to use and the narrower blade easier to make inside cuts than the wider Companion Carbon
The handle is very comfortable for long use and is the same as the Companion
The blade is the same size as the #1 Classic, but has a more comfortable handle than the plain barrrel wooden handle on the Classic line

I agree with all of this. I also like the 511.

I've since noticed the 11488. The handle looks similar to the 510 but the blade shape isn't as wide and looks shorter.

I have an original Classic #2, an orange Companion (I think...rubberized grip, 4" blade or so), and a red barrel-handle Classic. By far, I like the carbon steel Classic the best. Comfy and sharp as hell.

Mora have their line in carving knives
They are laminated with large barrel handles that are very comfortable to use for long times in all sort of grips
Very good blades
Not field knives

There also a #1 with a bare wooden handle in laminated and a leather sheath, which I lathed with beeswax
The handle is much smaller, which means you cannot do strong power cuts so you have to use the knife to cut and carve
This makes it very good as a field knife for wood working tasks
The laminate polishes well on a 3000 grit waterstone to a zero grind that gives it a superb cutting effect
I do not baton with it
Same blade profile as the HighQ Allround Carbon, just a little thicker as it is laminated
I use it in complement to a full tang knife

Less than $30 is an excellent price for such a classic
A lovely gift

Thanks for everyone's replies. It's looking like I may get more than 1 now. I like the companion, and or the 511.
I'm very exciting knowing I'm getting a mora it's going to be getting used immediately ....

I got both my kids the 511 and I have the bushcraft survival knife, its way more money than the standard mora but its thicker and has a nicer sheath with a sharpener and a firesteel

Another +1 for the companion, but its really hard to go wrong for the $

There's just so many cool mora's, I was looking at the bushcraft also.
