Which MORA to get????

To retain the Companions to the sheath. Take a loop of para, lay it across front, cross at back, pull up under the belt clip. Put ends together and through the round retainer, done.

I'd get the Mora HD Companion MG. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG! 1/8" Scandi Carbon Steel. It's a freaking laser. I did not come with a true zero edge from the factory but only took about 15 minutes on a polishing stone to get that scandi grind perfect and it is super scary sharp. 1/8" makes it super tough for field work too my man. Do it. Do it.

I have a 1 craftline highQ, 2 HD companion mg, and 1-511 in my cart at knife works I'll prolly order tonight or tomorrow .

I like my HD Companions, but my regular Companion MG's are better slicers. But this is just picking fly turds out of pepper, I like them all, lol !

If you can ever snag a 510, buy them all. I think they are the best ones Mora ever made, but they have been discontinued. Absent that, I'm really starting to develop a liking for the Mora 2000, cheesy sheath and all. Nice and light, and the bevel seems to me to be more acute than the rest, which is a good thing. Plus, the tip has been "scooped out" to make getting peanut butter and jelly out of the jar a whole lot easier.

I just ordered this at knife works, should have it 3 or 4 days. Thanks for all your help, super excited. I'm getting 4 knives for less than $60 . I'll see how I like the 511, I may take the guard off if it bothers me.
I'll post pict when they arrive.

I like the mora companion with the fire steel in the handle.

I was watching some reviews, they said with the HD companion the spine wasn't sharp enough on the edges for a fire steel? I guess I could modify it, if I really wanted to. I have at least 2 fire steels laying around in my kitchen drawer.

Yea just file the spine.

They arrived, you can see the one I sharpened, my first time sharpening a scandi, on waterstones. Came out so,so. It's a bit sharper than it came. Had a really exhausting day, and I'm working straight thru the weekend. I can't wait to get them outside and do some bushcraft. Thanks everyone for your help, I'm sure I'll need it again.:D

You will get noticeably better edge retention if you put a slight secondary bevel in your choice of angle on them;)

Don't do that. Not just yet. Feel the scandi..

You'll better edge retention just by hand sharpening away that factory edge

Definitely get to a zero grind on the waterstones
Then strop

You could 'sacrifice' one of the four to a secondary grind
To see

I thru it back on the stones again, got a little better. I'll keep them zero ground for now, maybe I'll put a secondary bevel on my sons knife, he'll never even know.:D
