Which Multi-tool plus which SAK?

I EDC a Hiker & LM Wave

Leatherman crunch- the vise grips are incredibly handy.

for the SAK, it varies between the minimalist compact and the Outrider.

The compact has everything you really need- plus cales (stick pin, tweezers, tootchpick, pen), the knife bits, and the scissors. Since I *use* botht he corkscrew and the baby screwdriver, all my choices have those.

The outrider is one of the larger lockback styles. The saw on that and the end mounted phillips are the winning factors for me.

I EDC a Leatherman Wave plus Victorinox Electrician, these two complement each other and there is little redundancy (ironically, my wave is used for the actual electrical stuff while my electrician is for around-the-office tasks).

For outdoors and wilderness usage I'd prefer a larger SAK (like the new soldier) and a smaller multitool (Leatherman juice or a small Gerber).

Saludos.

Vic Spirit paired with a dedicated knife of some sort (folder, small fixed, traditional slipjoint).

A multitool and a SAK simultaneously seems redundant to me.

I agree, if I'm carrying a multitool, there's nothing a SAK will have that it won't. I carry a Leatherman Fuse plus a dedicated knife. The blade on the Fuse is useful and could be used as your only EDC blade (and i do every so often) but i like having the option of a slightly larger, more easily deployable blade. A SAK is a multitool to me, not a knife...no point in carrying two. If i need a "beefier" tool for heavier duty applications, I use my Leatherman Surge. My most commonly carried "pair" is the Fuse plus a Kershaw Skyline (EDC) and the Surge plus a Kershaw Lahar or JYD II for heavier duty survival/outdoors applications.

one of the main arguments I make against this is the regular need for more than one tool at a time.

The most common instance of that would be the screwdriver and pliers combo. but I've used pliers and scissors, screwdriver and file, and pliers and knife (eating) often enough.

The other nice thing about having two is custom sizing the screwdrivers- I have the LM Crunch set up so it handles the .22 rifles, sportsman revolver, and the 870 quite adequately. (I also have a hiker SAK modified to handle the crosman based airgun sights)

Swisstool X for odd jobs around the house or car, and a Trekker for hiking or outdoor activities where I don't care about damaging or losing a $26 knife. I carry a Leatherman Squirt on my keyring--great for thread cutting, fingernails, screws, and bottle opening.

LM Skeletool CX & a Vic Champion Plus. Day in and day out! I really enjoy the "Plus" models from Victorinox. The pen and eyeglass screwdriver are a great addition IMHO!!!:D:thumbup::thumbup:
