Which multitool has the best blade?

I have never owned a multitool, but now i am considering one. It is important for me that it has a good knife blade in it, since I am also looking at it from self defence aspect. So the question is to those that have experience with multitools. Which one has the best blade? My main criterias are: blade length( the longer the better), good lock up, and spped of opening, also the convenience of carrying.

Multitools are notoriously hard to get blades out of, except for the Leatherman Wave, of course. That's a one-hander with a weak kind of liner lock.

But the handles aren't exactly tactical or even comfortable. No multitools that I've ever seen have really elegant locks or ergonomic handles.

On the other hand, either a Leatherman Supertool or a SOG Powerlock would make an excellent impact weapon :D

Gerber Legend also has a one-hand opening blade. Handles are supposedly ergonomic, but I've heard they're actually unwieldy (may be a matter of opinion).

Most Multitools has slow blade opening. I don´t think they are suitable at all for selfdefence. But better than your bare hands they still are.I have a Leatherman S200 and it has a 3 inch blade with locking features. But i think it should serve better as an impact weapon, because it is quite heavy. I think it ´s best if you carry a onehand opening folder for the defence aspect along with a multitool for everyday chores.

Gerber Legend does indeed have an adequate one hand opening blade, but, not especially ergonomic.

IMO your best bet would be to look at some of the SAK's for your purposes, a compromise between heavy usability & ease of carry/ergonomicallism (it is a real word, honest:rolleyes: ) & carry a toolroll in your car;)

None of them, most of the steels are to soft, my Leatherman wave came razor sharp but 5 mins. of use and it was dull as sh*t.

This is why I always carry an EDC with my leatherman.

If you have the money to spend, you would be smart to buy something like a SOG Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier (a multi-tool) AND a Spyderco Endura or Police model (as a "defense knife").

Agreed with the previous posts. If you are going to carry a multi-tool, carry an EDC as well. I carry a Gerber Multi-plier in my warbag at work, a Leatherman on my duty belt and a Strider-Buck SB2, Emerson CQC-7, or Benchmade 750BT in rotation.

A knife is a knife, and a multi-tool is a multi-tool. I don't know of any multi-tool that has a good knife blade. Not one would be useful for self defense, as stated. But yourself a knife for self defense, or serius cutting and keep the multitool for it's tools.

the SpyderRench would be the only one that might fit your criterion, but it is still a compromise -- it's not the best multi-tool, and although the blade is similar to a delica, the ergonomics are less ideal
