which multitool?

Since there seem to be so many Wave fans here, I have a quick question: do your Wave's handles line up properly? Mine have always been off a tad, like the handles were torqued hard before I got it. Is this normal, or did I get one that slipped through the cracks?

Just curious.

even give it away. Don't have any friends I'm that mad at now.

Could I ask how it failed? Was this with the pliers, or a tool?

I have one, no problems so far, and the pliers are just the right size to use on the machine at work without getting in the way.

I also have a Leatherman Supertool, nice tool but the lock aggravates me at times and the tools want to clump. I have a Gerber Multiplier, and the Multilock, Blunt nose and needle nose pliers respectivaly.

Right now it is the Swisstool that is carried, (along with a Sebertech M-4, in a pocketwatch pouch) on my belt.

it looks like i have a little more homework to do! but, i think i may go with one of the leatherman products. i've never had anything but praise for my leatherman classic picked up at home depot many moons ago, and it sounds like the new offerings are pretty awesome..

i must admit though, as a new convert to the world of spyderco, i'm intrigued by the spydie multitool as well..

anyhoo, thanks again for all the replies.. it's going to make a fun process all the more fun..

cheers,
steve

DJ yes I'll tell how my Swisstool failed my needs. I have issues with the pliers
and the tools. The opening ratio of the pliers to handles is way to wide for my hands.
Tools are to polished and rounded to be of much real use. I bought the Swisstool
to avoid the search for the perfect tool based on Swiss army knife experiance. The
Swiss usually get it right but they miss big time for me this time. From my point of
view the Swisstool offers much promise with very little real delivery. Shiney and pretty
yes ........Useful? nope.

Hi Al,

When my Wave is completely closed, the two handles are offset a bit from each other. I have noticed this before, and it's not enough to hurt anything. I guess I always assumed I had caused it!

I will second Peter Atwood. I think the SOG Switchplier is a great design and has the best carrying solution by far. Because if it's brilliant design, it also can truly be carried in the pocket. The only drawback is that if you really want an entire small folding toolbox, the Switchplier doesn't have it all.

The Schrade Tough Tool isn't too pretty, but works pretty well and can be had fairly cheap. Plus, you won't mind really beating it up.

I think Leatherman offers a 25 year warranty on their tools, so you may look into sending your old one in for a refurbishing. I wouldn't let that hold you back from getting another multitool, as you may need one while the original is out. :)
