Just sold off my SOG Seal Pup Elite and I'm in the market for a new fixed blade. I'm looking for a 5-6" stainless blade well under $100. I'm thinking Cold Steel SRK or Gerber Prodigy. I'll be using the knife for rugged outdoor activities. Any other suggestions?

Under $100 & Gonna be used for Tough Outdoor use - KA-BAR/BECKER BK2 or BK7  Another good choice would be the Condor Tool & Knife - RODAN

Hmm, why bother with stainless, unless your environment depends on it? I never got behind stainless steels, save Fallkniven knives.

My next fixed blade will be an RC-4.

That's right around $100 too.

Buck 119 Special. It more than meets your stated requirements and you'll have money left over to burn.

If the OP wanted a 1095 blade, he would have stated it, so lets try to keep within his requirements ie. stainless, ok?

The SRK is a pretty tough knife that offers alot of bang per buck. The AUS8 steel isnt to everybodys liking, some says it dulls easily and other say its pretty decent. But most agree that its a real tough knife. Id like to try one in San Mai.

I havent handled the Prodigy, but ive owned its bigger brother the LMF II, which was a pretty good knife. I only sold it because it looked way too military for my liking, but i kinda regret it now.

I like the Seal Pup better than the SRK or the Prodigy, myself. How about SOG's Northwest Ranger?

Did you not like the AUS8 steel? Honestly, most of the quality "branded" stainless knives $100 or less are going to be AUS8, 440A, or 420HC. Not a HUGE differencce between the three for most users or uses. Pick the knife you like the best, I guess.

I'd look for something in 12c27 with a good heat treat if you want something a bit different.

Well, can you spare half an inch? in that case the BM nimravus is an excellent knife, but to get under 100, you gotta look on the for sale forums here

i scored one for 60 bucks to my door

I prefer the stainless steels (AUS-8A, 12C27, 154CM/ATS-34, G2, VG10, etc)because of rust resistance on the edge itself. I carried an Ontario Pilot survival knife while in the Military and many years later. Lots of maintaining while in the field compared to my uncoated Seal Pup Elite in AUS-8A that I've carried lately.
I'd like to stay away from SOG. I've been very unhappy with that company for various reasons, hence the reason I sold off the Pup Elite.
I'm also looking at the Cold Steel OSI. I had a Carbon V SRK years ago and traded it for the AUS-8A Bush Ranger. The Bush Ranger was the best Bowie knife I ever owned. I kick myself daily for giving it away.

I'm very happy with my Sog NWR (new model). One of the best under $100 knives I own. I also have an Aus8a SRK that i reprofiled the edges to 15 deg. Wicked slicer now ! No issues or problems with either.

Save your pennies and get an ESEE-6! but if you insist, the Becker BK-2 by Ka-Bar is great value to performance...It has a lot of fans and you even have the option of swapping out the black scales for micarta in the future if you want! Amazon.com $56
