Which new fixed blade? (Recommendation)

the good old Ka-Bar USMC or one of those nice Ka-Bar bowies, ESEE-5/6, Fallkniven F1/S1/A1/H1, Becker BK-7 or one of the many, many Buck offerings would serve you well i rekon.

it all comes down to which one you prefer, which one suits you the best and how much you're prepared to splash out.

I believe you meant Cold Steel 38CK. And yes, that knife would certainly meet Wunderbar's requirements. He even mentioned it in his OP.

.

I did mean Cold Steel. Sorry about that I was looking at a bunch of Spyderco's earlier in the day!

I have the Cold Steel SRK, and it has done a fine job for me to this point. I used it a lot, and it's held up. Below is a review I did of it a while back...

The review is very favorable, but in hindsight, I have learned a lot about knives and the companies that make them since then. If I could go back and do it over again, I would have bought something from ESEE or RAT Cutlery. Great company and a great warranty, but most likely you won't even need it because the knives are THAT GOOD. There is nothing wrong with the SRK, I just know that for the price point, you can get a little bit more bang for your buck by going with ESEE.

I will soon be getting the Junglas and the RC-6.

I received a Cold Steel SRK a few months ago and with lots of hard use I found the handle, believe it or not loosened up and now makes an annoying clicking sound. The finish absolutely sucked, and i was incredibly underwhelmed with the "Secure-ex" sheath because the method of retaining the knife without the retention strap was 2 measly little bumps that were supposed the lock into the kraton. Though the spine was thick and I knew it was a strong knife it always felt like it was lacking something. Out of the box the edge was OK...but far from Ka-bar sharp.

I hope that my experience with the Cold steel SRK will influence you to search a little longer before making a purchase decision. Best of luck
